That is such a cool idea. I'm going to start birth year collections for people in my life as well! Thanks for the idea.

By all means, Buddy and others, copy the Idea to whatever extent you like. The complete idea was not only date, but mint closest to their place of birth. Grandpa was born in northern CA near the bay area, ergo S, and Grandma in Maryland, ergo no mark Phila. Aunt and Uncle were also born in northern CA, ergo D since SF Mint was no longer making silver coins. CCF member Indian1 helped with the 1934 set. The 1887 set is to represent my birth year, as well as the 1987 ASE that I also put in there. Also, the 1967 among the 40%ers represents my mother.

hehe....of interest...I bet there is 20 to 25 percent of "stuff" in my safe that is not worth what the 40% halves are.

My page has good company in that safe, my grandfather has the 1978 Kugerand that he was given by his mother in there.

Awesome Collection! Keep adding to it. Before you know it, you will have pages upon pages! Congrats on your page. I really like the idea of doing memorial sets like that.

@raymo: My grandpa was born in 1939 and still living as my mentor, as aggravating as he can be sometimes. @stud: only two of these are memorial. The next set I think I'll work on is halves + Washington quarters, all of them

Argentum thats a great idea. Why havent you added the cents and nickels for the set? Are you wanting a silver only collection? Are there any meaning to the kennedys aside from the 1967?

Looks great to me. Thanks for sharing and definitely a neat idea about the year sets. The idea of how to choose the mint marks is also a great one.

I have Grandpa's, Uncle's, and Aunt's nickels in my Jefferson nickel folder and Grandma's nickel in a different page. Likewise for the cents, and I'll get the cent for grandma as I work on my Wheats. The other 40% Kennedy's are the part of my Kennedy halves that I just wanted to put away. The coins on that page marked "Circ." are ones that I pulled from circulation a while before I joined here.

Impressive collection so far. One observation is the excessive cost of staples used on some of thoes flips. And on one used front and back. Looks like someone really wants to make sure nothing gets to those coins. Glad to see that though since many have shares in the Swingline Staple company. Have you considered putting some of that info on the flips so in the future all that info is known and remembered?

Yeah, 8 staples on the Morgans to be sure I get a good seal around them. With only four around such a thick coin, there was still a gap in the edge of the paper enough to see the coin.
The info is on the index card I have in the zip-lock bag I put them in. To write that info on the flip itself would be a waste of a flip if they ever needed to be sold.

This is a great idea. I'm going to start a page of my own... I have a few 1950 and 1952 Washington quarters (my wife and my birthdate), several 1987 Kennedy proofs (a very significant year in my life), and a 1991 ASE for my daughter's birthdate. Thanks for the great idea!
