((cleaned and banged up)) That shows just how little you know The coin grades PCGS AU.55 The only scratch you can see with just your eyes is the bag mark on the face, the rest you will need a 30x loop.

If that coin graded PCGS 55 then you posted a very bad picture of it.

Like I said the scratches are extremely fine about 10x thinner than a hair. That is a 2,400 DPI picture, that's double HD quality.

Is the coin a little darker in hand or is this a good representation of the luster?

The coin still has all it's luster, my camera is just putting out too much detail. I'm going to drop it from 24mp to 4 and maybe the coins will look better.

Thank you for posting the updated picture. I agree with AU details as I believe it was cleaned.
From your grandfather? Nice heirloom and I hope you keep it safe!

Why would you say it is PCGS 55?

((Why would you say it is PCGS 55?)) Because that's what it was when I removed it from the slab. I collect coins not slabs.

jsburton, I hope you understand that the pictures posted do not show a coin that is AU 55, that is all. If you sense responses of disbelief, it is because the pictures posted really to look to us that the coin has been cleaned, possibly harshly. Even to me and I waited until the second set to offer my opinion. It seems you are happy with the coin and since you have cracked it out of a slab you plan on keeping it. Enjoy your coin and understand the opinions offered are meant to help and not hurt.

If you better like the coin out of the slab, then it makes sense to break the slab.
As for ever selling the coin, I don't think it'll ever get AU55 again, making buyers pay less for it.

Oh I can't sell the coin it's been in the family for 90 years. None of my coins are for sale. They will be my sons. My grandfather had a large collection and passed it to my dad, my dad has even a larger collection which will all be passed to me and then to my son.
