No Problem - glad this could help someone.

I also thought of something I will try next time I punch one of these.

When I punch them, I plan on punching two pages at one.

1. Take page A and position it so the places to be punched are on the right.
2. Take page B and orient it so the places to be punched are on the left.
3. Place A and B side by side such that their places to be punched are touching.
4. Center the punch on the seam formed where the two pages touch.
5. Make one hit that cuts the area of both pages at once.

This will guarantee the punches are the exact same size and exact same position from page to page.

Good stuff man. I read your post about the $5 albums from Wizard (3 on the way) and I also wonder why Dansco's albums don't have these.

Also, anybody hear any news on the 7070's. I've got a Whitman version coming and will compare when it gets here.

Well, I decided to ask them! Here is what I sent on their contact page:

Quote:
When I got my first Dansco album, I was immediately impressed by the quality. However, owning examples of Littleton, Whitman, and Coin Collector albums, I was surprised all of these less expensive albums have a feature I am surprised Dansco albums do not: thumb-tab indexed pages to facilitate accessing the plastic slides.

I had not noticed this until I started putting coins into the Dansco album and, compared to the other, less expensive brands, had trouble trying to get to edges of the slides to pull them out. I do not like the idea of having to put pressure on the coins in order to remove the slides.

Please do NOT take this as a criticism, but as a suggestion. I would think for the cost difference, the thumb indexed pages would have been a standard feature.

BTW - I did solve this problem for myself - here is a link, with pictures, to where I modified one of the Dansco albums and shared with others how to do it.
https://goccf.com/t/140384#1268917

I admit the album I modified was a used one for which I only paid 5.00. But I do not relish the idea of spending 25.00 on a new Dansco and then having to modify it by taking it all apart to punch my own thumb-tab indexes.

Is there a chance this is a feature that could be incorporated into future albums such as the upcoming 7070 update?

Thank you for your time and product.

We shall see what they say...

@Jlafever
Also looking forward to see the Whitman comparison...

You are going to think I am strange, but I actually like not having them on the pages.

But, to each their own.

I just hope Dansco does not change their pages. If they do, I hope it is optional.

That's interesting. I guess since I was moving coins en masse from older PVC pages, and am continually upgrading my circulation JFK set from roll searching, it was something I took for granted until I started putting pieces in a used Dansco I had.

The other thing I thought of is that, until recent, I did not have proofs in albums. I cringe at the idea of putting pressure onto the Dansco plastic, it pushing on the proof coin in the slot, and then sliding the plastic to get an edge to stick out beyond the edge of the page so I can grasp it.

You are right though - to each his own. Maybe they should make it optional. When I get a reply - I will suggest this as an option also.

BTW - how do you get around the pressure-on-proof scenario - or do you think maybe I am being too cautious?

I always apply pressure over the empty hole.

I do not upgrade my coins, so if there are no empty holes, there is no reason to remove the slide.

But to answer your question, if I had to, I would do it very carefully. Just enough pressure to slowly move the slide out far enough to grab the edge with my precision pliers.

Ah, upgrades.

As I said, I do not do that.

You obviously have a valid concern.

I always just apply light pressure and slide until I get a hold of it on the side. I also agree that I prefer the look of the page without the cutouts. That said, you did a good job with the punch on the sides to make these cutouts!

I always upgrade my Albums. And with as many as 12 Sets of Mercury dimes, that is a constant thing. I mostly use Whitman for those Albums that are constantly upgraded. Dansco for those that are not upgraded a lot or not at all. Instead of using a tool to make the slots at the end of the page for slide removal, I just take a scissors and cut my own slot. Since they are my own Albums, I don't care about appearances. Just an easy way to get the slides out.
Now if Dansco can just stop the empty slots at the end of each Album.

Just be creative and fill them with those extras you have laying about.
