This appears to be a coin that was worn down by some machinery or even sanding (finer and finer grit?). But no raised rim, to me, implies it was not tumbling and falling on its edge over and over in a dryer (or washer).

These are modern Lincoln cents (copper plated zinc) Dryer Coins.
Note that the rims or face of the coins shows how the copper plating has been worn off.

Makes sense since the dirt at the bottom of the tubs is continually being moved around over them as well.

My name is Tim Alexander and I have come across a 1974 Roosevelt dime that is pretty odd.  First thing I noticed was the back.the die did not stamp the back of the dime completely.

Next thing I noticed was the front is off center enough to cut some letters off in the words in and we.

The dime only weighs 2.04 grams.

The last thing I noticed is the sides have no ridges and appears to be copper in color.

Please let me know something about it if you can. I am relatively new to collecting but haven't seen this yet.

Thanks in advance
Tim

To CCF! Just seeing a worn and damaged dime. PMD. Worth 10 cents. 2.2 grams is what it's supposed to weigh. It only weighs 2.0 grams which tells me it was sanded down.

Early stage Dryer Coin? Looks like post-mint damage. Also, please read the rules about posting personal info and about site requirements for selling.

Hey Earle... Thank you very much for enlightening me regarding Dryer Coins I see what was meant by the rim of the coin being smashed in toward the center with the pictures you provided

to the CCF, Vynymynyn! Dryer Coins are very distinctive, once you know the key characteristics.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
