Yea, either proof Eagles from your birth year or a $100 Morgan.

Agree on all the above.. Very high grade Morgan dollar, or Proof 70 ASE. I actually have been doing this for my son. It is just a suggestion... Try and get MS-70 Coins for your birth year. He was born in 2011, so when I bought him a proof 70 Eagle it was over $100.00. Even your Kennedy half dollars for whatever year you were born in, in a MS70 can be a bit expensive. It is just a suggestion. It all depends on what you like I suppose.

I think you should go with some classic that got history along with it. Forget about the modern. I wouldn't even bother to get a ASE. Silver can go down or up any day. If you buy something rare, it holds value and has history.

You should get yourself a Buffalo nickel or AU-58 Barber dime.
But a MS-64 Morgan isn't bad.

You don't have a wishlist?

Just me, but I make out a "wishlist" and set goals to acquiring those wishlist items. The list is full of items I'm interested in but items that I also know are practical and in my budget.

I also take a piece of paper and fold it in half and list on either side reasons for acquiring the items and reasons for not acquiring the items.

If there are more positives than negatives, I add the item to my wishlist. This board has proven to be very valuable in helping me decide in what direction I want go with my purchases and reasons for adding +/- to my lists.

This year's list:

All 5 of the 2013 Uncirculated 5oz ATBs
2 annual 2013 silver proof sets
1 5-Star Generals Profile Collection
1 Girl Scouts Collectors Set
1 coin book- to increase my knowledge

During the year, there are numerous little distractions that might prevent me from acquiring my wishlist but I go back to the list and look at the reasons why I put the items on the list to begin with. One distraction this year was electing not to buy a Westpoint Silver Eagle Set that would have interfered with crossing out another ATB off my list.

Anyway, this may sound odd but I also keep this list in plain sight to remind myself of what I really want and why. This helps me stay focused on getting what I want. Instead of taking $5-10 for McDonald's or pizza I'll grab a cheaper substitute and pocket that money for something on the list. It's only a few dollars but it will add up to a nice purchase if I stay focused and keep adding to it.

If someone asks what do you want for a birthday or Xmas gift I show them my list and tell them what I'm trying to do so they can help. This cuts down on silly clothes like sweaters and things that I would never use or want that people used to give me at Xmas! If they couldn't get me the item on the list, $5 and a card would help me reach the goal.

Next years list:

All 5 of the 2013 Uncirculated 5oz ATBs- praying prices don't increase dramatically
2 annual 2014 silver proof sets
1 Baseball Hall of Fame Set with Gold coin
1 2014 uncirculated Civil Rights specially packaged coin
Next years book will be "Whitman Encyclopedia of US paper money" and I might be able to afford "A Guide Book of US Tokens and Medals"

The gold coin is going to really increase my budget but I started adding to my glass jar back in April.

But my point is I would make out a wishlist with your own preferences and that suits your budget and go from there.

I took the liberty of stalking your posts a bit to see where your head was at. Considering that and what you've said here, this is the time for you to find and snag a "nice for the grade" AU 1931-S Lincoln. It's my belief that they are probably the most undervalued date in the series; a mid-Teens San Francisco Lincoln, with mintages 5 times that of the 1931-S, goes for similar money. You've already got "the" key in the S-VDB; use these small windfalls to snag more keys.

Definitely all of the above, for $100 and change I'd suggest to your folks this year's silver proof set @ $53.95 and proof Silver American Eagle @ $52.95. Having some silver in your stash is not a bad idea.

I received a 1909-S V.D.B. cent for my elementary school "graduation."

WHAT? Are your parents adopting? Are they even maybe just looking to buy something really cool for someone completely random? Please let me know if either answer is "yes."

Thanks for the ASE suggestions, but my father gets silver bullion every week.

LOL

Proof ASEs in graded slabs are not really bullion. Their numismatic value will always exceed the regular bullion coins.

But we're only offering suggestions as you asked. It really boils down to what you want/like.

Whatever coin you get will certainly be a better choice than a new video game or in my case, model airplanes.

Yes, I was thinking about a Liberty Seated half dollar of some year.

If you were to buy ASE's, what grade and mint and strike would you get? I see online they have first strike and West point and Early Strike and all other kinds of grades.

My local dealer had a nice XF 1876 half dollar roughly within your budget and you might find something similar near you.

Another idea is to build a birth year set. My local antique dealer has built up a birth year set for himself (born 1951) and each of his kids. His set comprises all the UK circulation coins for the year, mint stamps in issue that year, first day covers (where relevant and possible), photocopies of the front page of a newspaper on the birth date (or the next day after) - his makes an amazing display on his office wall. He's now working on getting one coin from each of the British Commonwealth countries to add to his own birth year set.

If that inspires you, tell us your birth year, and we can make other suggestions.

Since you now have that 09S VDB, why not stick to Lincoln Cents. Not sure how many you have but if no Album, tell your parents to buy you a Lincoln Cent Album. Of course a 14D's would be nice in that new Album. Lots and lots of Lincoln Cents to get if you want a complete set. Don't forget there are lots and lots from 1909 to present. A nice complete set of all the 2009's would be nice.
By the way my Birthday is September 6, so what are you getting me?
