Quote: Even took a jbuck recommendation and tape the little grade cards from the slabs to the inside cover Wish I could take credit for that one, but I got the idea from here.

Once the coin is separated from the slab you definitely lose any guarantee from the TPG. And it would be unlikely a buyer would believe you either.

Quote: I find Sap's commentary bordering on offensive. I have albums, and while they are not my primary high-grade collection, they are certainly an aspect of my collection I consider important and I enjoy working on them when the time and opportunities arise. Apparently, in his eyes, that makes me less of a collector. I'm sorry if I came across that way, it certainly wasn't my intent. I don't like using albums, other people do. That doesn't make me superior. That doesn't make me inferior either. It makes us different. And different's OK. Perhaps it's just a cultural difference. Here in Australia, such albums for Australian coins used to be fairly commonplace back in the 1970s, but the only ones you see for sale in the coin dealers these days are old recycled ones. Nobody seems to want them anymore.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Quote: I find Sap's commentary bordering on offensive. Not me. If you ask for an opinion, you might just get it here on the CCF. As for me: Here's the inside rear cover of my Seated Liberty half dollar Dansco Album: Can you tell how I feel about slabs?

I here ya moe. Maybe you are the one I heard this from. I know all of my albums have been this way since I heard about it on here. As for worrying about the devalue. Thats not my worry that will be up to who inherits them.

I trust my 2x2's far more than any album. Those I had in albums from years ago have faired far worse than the ones I have had in faded and discolored 2x2's for over 40 years... But slabs I don't like... too big and hard to store. besides, with 2x2's in binder I can decide where the 'holes' are...

Something I encountered today as I was album/folder shopping for my expanding collection of business strike Kennedy halves is that they sometimes leave holes out. I looked at Dansco albums, and folders from Whitman and Warman's. None of them seem to include the 40% silver Unc. 1976-S. But the Ike Dansco (in comparison) does have the hole for the 1976-S 40% Unc. dollar--which was only sold in the same red envelope with the silver Half and Quarter for the Bicentennial. What to do, what to do... Ended up going with the Whitman folders since it's within my budget right now. Not sure what to do with that silver Bicentennial though--it will be the only Kennedy in my collection without a home.

It's a challenge in its own right to acquire nice common date coins. I am working on a Dansco Mercury dime album and I have no real intention of acquiring the 1916-D - it's hard enough to find everything else in the AU grades that I am looking for....

I really like Albums. And as SAP mentioned about some company telling me what to collect. I agree that really is lousy. I'd say something else but it might get deleted. Most manufacturers of Albums and Folders copy each other to some degree. However, Dansco really should but that thing they have about leaving so many blanks at the end of most Albums ticks me off. That and no method of removing slides too gets me. For Dansco I suspect most like them due to the color fits in with expensive looking books then hide them away anyway. I keep almsot all my coins in Albums. I have well over 100 Albums and most full. Some I've had so long most of the pages are from additionals with nothing on them squeezed in for coins made well aftet the Album. I even make my own collections with several types of coins in one Album. Such as Shield/Liberty Head/Buffalo/Jefferson Nickels. No proofs of course. As to the blank slots, I have none. For those oddball and rather rare ones, I eventually just buy them. Sure wish there was someone to complain to at the companies that make Albums but most don't care. As to putting those little stickers from a slab on a page in an Album. I USED to do that too. Then one day I said to myself, SELF, what are you doing. I don't care what a coin in this album WAS. It's mine now and no one would really believe that he sticker was for the coin here now anyway. So I dumped them all.

Another thing, holes in albums for error coins. Ugh! 3 legged buffalo, what the heck Dansco?

Hey, thank for all the comments. That was really interesting. I think I will be more of a optimist and perhaps in the future, I'll have enough $$ to fill in the expensive ones!
