Thanks for the quick reply. I'll clear this up:

-I want a series that has already been discontinued
-Something older and more challenging than for example, SBA dollars, Eisenhower dollars, or Kennedy halves
-Key dates are fine, as long as most of the series is relatively affordable
-No proofs or errors, business strikes only
-For difficulty level, somewhere in between beginner and moderate

I have just gotten a few and I got the one's that do not include the proofs.

The way I figure it is that once I can get the P/D Albums filled with higher quality pieces THEN I can get another album WITH the proofs and transfer.

When that one is complete, then work on the P/D set again.

It will keep me from trying to spend too much at once and I think I will be more satisfied with the results.

Just my opinion though.

Good luck with however you go with it.

Rest in Peace

I'll toss the Frankin Half Dollar series into the hat.

Franklin halves are a perfect set for beginners.

For somewhat higher difficulty, I'd suggest Mercury dimes. The last 10 years or so of the set is easily obtainable in UNC, with the earlier years being mostly doable in VF-EF, save for a few key dates.

The first album I completed was for the Eisenhower dollars.

Franklin half dollars was the second.

The Jefferson nickel album was technically first, but that was not counting proofs (which I added later) or the pre-dated holes (they had not been minted yet).

That being said, one of those three (four, including the SBA) will be the easiest, in my opinion.

My favorite Dansco to complete was Jefferson nickels. I have to agree that Franklins are nice!

One of the last album sets I started, but the very first one I completed, was the Jefferson nickel album set. It's not TOO hard to get it, if you're willing to invest some time in searching rolls. I actually assembled two. One of my sets is BU and the other is all from circulation. It's not gonna take a ton of money from your wallet, won't take a ton of time from your day to finish it, and it's a pretty nice set when it's all done.

I would say Roosevelt dimes you can do pretty easy although that is still going on. Jefferson nickels as well. Franklins. All have really been said before. A pretty good selection. I just ordered Jeffersons (7113), Roosevelts (7125), and Washington quarters which I am just about to start on.

I made my decision. I'm going to get a #7165 ( Franklin half dollars). I think the series is a good fit for me, plus I already have a great piece to start it off: An uncirculated 1963 that I posted in the Modern Grading forum.

Again, thank you all for the helpful responses!

I say go for a 7070 album. It will take some time, it will most likely be all over the board on condition but it can be completed and you will have learned a lot about US coins in the process. I find type collecting a great way to get relative newcomers to the collecting hobby interested as well as a great collection for seasoned collectors who continually try to upgrade.

It will probably take more time finding a 7070 than it will filling it
