It's hard to tell how much chatter there really is on the obverse, It could make anywhere between PR62-64. can we get some better pics of the field on the obverse?

I'm inclined to call this a pl/dmpl business strike... the rims don't quite have the flatness or the squareness I'd like ot see in a proof coin. The VAM will tell the story, though.

The reverse doesn't look right. I would stay away.

My error, I guess you already own it. The pic of the reverse just seems a bit unusual. Anyway, I don't think this is a proof, but the TPG will be the definitive answer on it.

I'm with jimbucks- the reverse appears to exhibit artificial toning. I'm inclined to think that this is a PL coin.

As has been mentioned previously, a true proof will have very squared off edges and as a rule shouldn't exhibit any bagmarks. Also your photos make it appeear that the fields are prooflike only on the obverse, which would also indicate a business strike. The suggestion by dave700x to see if the proof die identifiers are present is the correct way to settle the matter one way or the other.

You guys are awesome. Always can count onyou. I study these *%#+€+• coins constantly. This said "proof" on the tag. I guess we shall see what the TPG says. And because I am impatient, I always have them done as fast as I can lol. I think 5 days?

Looks like a 1878 Proof to me. Very nice. Can't really help with a grade for it. The photos aren't the best. Good luck.

I always pay about $18. He covers shipping/ insurance as he sends 100's a month. Sometimes its a few bucks more but I never really asked ir questioned it. I always buy something so he adds the cost into that. Ill ask tomorrow

Looks DMPL to me. Toning is questionable.
I don't think it is a proof.

If he is just sending the coin out now, it will be at least a month or two until there are any results.
