Odd that if you go to Google and type in Coin Albums there are a lot less than in the past. Seams like some companies are dropping out of the coin album market.

As far as new albums with wide series coverage, you pretty much just have Whitman, Dansco and Littleton.

Hopefully this is not a sign of something coming. Like a slowdown in coin collecting.

Dansco and Whitman appear to lead the pack.

I have two albums, one Dansco and one Whitman. The Dansco album seems better made and fits the coins better. The Whitman album's coin holes are looser and the coins tend to move around a bit. The coins do look better in the Whitman album though with the dark blue pages. I've never had a Littleton album but I highly recommend their folders.

I think it signals the rise of TPG slabs as the main storage method.

I love the extra holes in the Dansco album. I have a joint jefferson/ buffalo album. I use the extra holes for extra War Nickels I find. I also put hobo nickels and Buffalo nickels I find in circulation in the extra slots. I kinda need a spare page, I find about two silver War Nickels a week, guess I will have to start throwing them in tubes.

I have several dansco and find them to be very good and nice looking. I agree a little indention to grab the slide would be nice.

I also have my own binder with pages for 2x2's I use for coins I am still debating on trying create some type of set or leave them as stand alone coin and move onto something else. The outside is rough but I don't judge a coin by the folder it is in :)

New Collector,
The albums seem expensive from Whitman if your currently in the generalist collecting mode for all coins.

What album is the cheapest but "safe".
Are the albums from China safe. If. yes, who?

Anyone have a source for inexpensive but safe albums.

Thanks

I think this subject came up in the past. One thing that was brought up then was where they are made. I checked and Dansco is made in the USA. I was horrified when I saw at a coin show Whitman Albums and pages had a sticker on them that said Made in China. I'm a big Whitman fan or used to be but if we are to support made in the USA, I would think it has to be Dansco.

That would have to be Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon!
Oh - you mean coin albums...

I have used a few different albums over the years, Dansco albums are nice, though my favorite looking album is no longer made, it used clear pockets on a strip that slid into clear with a small label below each coin, very easy to customize anyway you wanted. The trouble was those particular albums were full of PVC and ended up destroying my IHC and LHC collections, I had them in storage while attending college. I believe they were Harco albums.

I have found for the early federal coinage and large/half cents the Dansco album holes don't always fit the coins very well. I also use 2x2 and 1.5x1.5 mylar flips put into pages in a 3-ring binder with a slip cover. Works great and is quite flexible for my needs.

Searching the web, coin stores and shows, I've found a place called "Coin supply express" about the cheapest place yet. I just ordered several Whitman Albums and there was no postage, handling, shipping charges. Their prices were the best I've found so far. I'm still irritated that Whitman is now all made in China.
