Actually I was #5 till I posted then it was #7 and I just stopped trying after that lol but I would give it to the first Gary on the thread lol watch now we will have 6 Gary's in from of me lol

AS an error collector, I could probably never have a complete set. I have one quite large set that is getting very difficult to find any coins to add to it, but I know they are out there. My set has also turn into many, many sub sets of errors that are similar
I have sets of normal coins as well, always more coins to buy than money in the pocket. I have had to stop working on my 7070 album, just to many errors out there.

Benji, I wish I never my sold 1990 no s proof set. Reason I cant find an replacement for it. Ow well I regret it big time. At time I never wanted to sale it but I needed the money at time to pay bills. I even tryed to buy it back from the man I sold it to. He never sent back to me. I guess its history. Maybe someday I will buy another set . I see the replacements cost 4500 to 6500 on them. I did learn an lesson on selling my set like I did. I should have sent to pcgs grading company to have it checked out before I sold it. I was new at selling coins and did not know what I doing at time. I was amazed that 1944 d zinc sold for 115000 at the auction http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...17020#145606 I was amazed that 1944 d zinc sold for that. I never seen an coin go that expensive before. I wish I was the guy who sold it for sure or I could have bought it for my collection. That coin along with 1943 copper coin is the prize in penny world. I never seen an 1943 copper sell yet. The other cool penny is the 1959 cent with wheat ears on back. Those are some cool pennys out there. I need to have millions dollars in bank to afford those for sure to finish my set. Its nice to dream sometimes but I have work hard for my coin collection or pay bills all the time. Chevrolet454ss |

I have two complete sets and I don't know what to do yet. I assembled a complete set of Peace dollars and chose some very pricey coins, so maybe I should keep it for awhile? I have a complete set of mostly circulated Walkers. Some of those dates were tougher than others, but the whole set is above average - just not enough above average to liquidate easily. The bottom line is, I hate to part with them. I look at them all the time. I know subtle characteristics of each example. A few coins I'd like to replace, but only one is a "key". But as a whole, the idea of getting rid of something that took such a focused effort and labor of love, seems like a hard thing. |

First thing I do is run around the house screaming "Yes, Yes, Yes," and then I place the album on a shelf and start a new collection. I am a collector and want to periodically see the fruits of my labor, and not sell my coins.

I UPGRADE and start a new set if I am pretty satisfied with my completed set. I started a Jefferson set back in 1973 and I have been upgrading it ever since...needless to say I have a really nice set but I am still not 100% satisfied with it. But the outcome is I have about 2 extra sets from my upgrades of this "main" collection. The same has occurred with my Type sets I started in January...I have now three working sets! I finally decided that I am would put certain coins in the "main" type set Dansco and never upgrade them...the goal is to have mostly MS and Proofs in that 7070 so it will be a lifetime work in progress. In addition I have completed mostly moderns so far since January: Roosevelt dimes - needs a few coins upgraded to UNC Washington quarters - needs a few coins upgraded to UNC SAE - Unc - want to replace the 2006. SAE - Proof Ikes Working on Kennedy halves. Edited by Nelrak

With me I just keep on going with more and more and more sets. I have all my collections in Whitman Classic Albums. As one fills I start another one. As I acquire a coin, if it is better than in set one, the one from set one goes into set 2 and from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 and on and on and on. I have at present 97 Albums and all mostly complete. At present I am thinking about adding more albums since I have 8 boxes of duplicates in 2x2's. The last time I acquired a Mercury dime Album I filled it almost completely from those duplicates except the 42D/41. A dealer a I know told me he has boxes full of empty Whitman Albums and will let me take my choice free. My asumption is soon I will have over 100 albums. I find it facinating to look in a #1 Album and try to remember when they were all badly worn and now all in MS grades. |

My only completed sets are Jefferson nickel and Franklin halves, and a 7070 (no gold) in VF or better. When I inherit some money I am going to complete these sets in the following order: 7070 Gold Page, the remaining four coins in my Buffalo nickel set, the remaining four coins in my Lincoln set, the remaining 10 coins in my Indian Head cent set. After that I will probably die and leave it all to my children/grandchildren. Blessed with a long (and prosperous) life I may also finish a Merc Dime set. In the meantime I am slowly upgrading the 7070, by far the most fun for me to complete. Interesting thread. Thanks. |

Remember in all of the law school movies it shows the instructor telling his class, "Look to the left, look to the right, one of them will drop out before the end of the year." I kind of look at coin collecting this way. For example: If I just completed a set of Mercury dimes I'd then see what was before and after them and go from there. This way you'd have a way of supplying continuity and a time line for your collection. |

Nope, it is in the nicest grade that you can afford.
I'll never finish a set.
Unless I get a nice unc 1932 D & S, plus a 1934 D, and a 1936 D all in uncs.
Then my Washington, eagle set would be really done.

I have completed my Kennedy Halfs, State Quarters (minus the Wyoming), and I am really close to finishing the Washington quarters (1932-1998). I'm trying to upgrade all of the coins to BU. But I was wondering if it would be a good idea to try and buy these graded in a high condition by PCGS or NGC. Would it be expensive to do this? What do you guys think about making a complete graded set? Thank you, Ben |
