Yep...I read them. I can understand how you can get taken for a ride by a buyer as much as a buyer can get taken for a ride by a seller. It's swings & roundabouts really isn't it? You have your view point because you sell, I have mine because I buy...& the twain shall probably never meet. The only winner is ebay with all it's commission. Anyway...it's late here so I'd best get off to bed, work tomorrow. Have a nice evening America. Regards.

quote: I got negative feedback as a buyer purely because I'd left it ( deservedly so ) & the other guy actually said as much when he left it me. ebay feedback is not a true reflection of someones honesty or quality as a seller or a buyer. Once an item is paid for the seller should leave feedback. Once the item is received the buyer should then leave his/hers. Period.
An interesting discussion about that (below) https://goccf.com/t/21360&whichpage=1

I am sorry but as a buyer, I communicate promptly and send payment quickly as well. What other parts of the transaction am I responsible for other than leaving you feedback once the item is received and or communicating with you before leaving feedback ( in the event that I am not pleased). Other than that my feedback should be given to me as soon as payment has cleared. The system is flawed other wise you give the seller a chance to give you a negative feed back in retaliation to your feed back. It should be based on your responsibility of sending info and prompt payment. just my thoughts !

Jim, did you read my list of buyer responsibilities? The system is flawed all right. Tremendously in favor of buyers. As I've explained before... quote: The feedback system will always be flawed as long as it's tilted towards the buyer so heavily.
Buyers have the luxury of being able to scrutinize a seller's feedback before they bid. Seller's don't have that luxury, a buyer with 95.9% feedback can bid on your listing with a minute left and there's nothing you can do about it.
10 negatives doesn't penalize a savvy buyer one iota. One negative can crush a seller. Not a level playing field.
The first step in fixing the feedback system is to force buyers to care about their feedback score. Allow sellers to input a minimum feedback % and a minimum feedback received that is allowed to bid on their items. If the potential buyer is under either number stated by the seller they get an error message when they try to bid.
A buyer can say their not going to buy a coin from a seller with under 10 feedback or with 99.8% or lower percentage. Sellers have absolutely no say in the quality of buyer they deal with! That's absurd! A feedback extortionist can just keep buying, and buying, and buying, bidding at the end of an auction even though his feedback is 95%. As a seller you have no choice!
Right now, buyers have the freedom to pick who they deal with, sellers do not.

Yes USArmyParatrooper...I've read it already as bobby pointed it out to me. I have to say that it hasn't changed my view on the issue. Once I've paid promptly my part in the transaction is done. To quote bobby in the previous discussion you guys had about this "Feedback is 100% voluntary, no one has to leave it". If that is the case then what else can I possibly do once I've parted with my cash ( promptly )? Hence I should receive feedback at that point...feedback that honestly reflects my part of the transaction because 'my part is done'. When I receive the sellers goods I would then feedback him because, to quote bobby, "the transaction is not over until the item is received". Correct. Item now received, sellers feedback is on the way. Maybe we should feedback the postman? At the end of the day as long as this feedback system is open to abuse as much as it currently is there are gonna be losers & there are gonna be winners. The winner here in my opinion is ebay itself. This is an interesting discussion & it could probably go on forever but...I see it my way, some of you see it differently...so be it. I think that eventually, as ebay evolves, the feedback system will in itself evolve & hopefully it'll become fairer for all that use it.

As a seller I like to know that the coin which I sent was received and is going to be kept by the buyer before feedback is left ,, there are many things which can go wrong on a refund and return . As a buyer I can understand the (I paid where's my feedback ) Is either one more right than the other ? Not really one is just safer for the seller who has the lesser amount of protection inherently built into the current system than the buyer has. There are many pitfalls for sellers ,,all the buyer has to do is push a button to send the money and then sit back and wait for the Item,, the seller takes all the risk with the postal service,, with having the Item correctly described (which is often times never fully read by the buyers) and then they are at the mercy so to speak of the buyers state of mind ,attitude, and overall honesty ,good day bad day ,the boss stepped on my toes at work and I'm going to take it out on somebody BS and last but not least the seller pays for the priviledge of dealing with all of the above both to ebay and pay pal . and what is the normal feedback for all the work ,care and expense from buyers ,, Item received thanx ! This type of feedback offers no info for the rest of ebay to read and be able to decide what the seller actually did ,,what type of communication, what efforts were taken in packaging ,what if any service the buyer received ,, at least if as a seller I did not already leave a glowing ,,Prompt payment received ,, Great customer ,Perfect Transaction ! Thank you ! feedback when I get one of these little or no thought given feedbacks ,, I can cut mine to read. payed thanx Metalman

"Is either one more right than the other ?" Agreed. It all depends through who's 'spectacles' you are looking through. A few months a go I bought 4 'First Day Covers' from a stamp dealer in the south of England. He wanted paying by cheque. I sent a cheque off with my ebay details ( item number etc ) the same day I won the item. Approx three weeks later I get a 'non payment' strike against me! I contact the seller & got an abusive message back. Hence I went to my bank to see if the cheque had been cashed. It had 10 days previously & I was given the bank account number of the person who cashed it. I then presented this info to the seller who then blamed me for not sending my item details etc with my cheque! He then phoned me up ( I'd been naive enough to leave my phone number on registering with ebay...now removed ) & began to abuse me again. Now...the guy was very lucky he lived 200 miles away I can tell you. This is but one example of seller who was a jerk & shows me Metalman that the buyer is just as much at the mercy of the sellers state of mind etc etc. Again a few months ago I bought some FDC's but from some guy in NY. He charged me $23 for postage which actually came to $3.60! I messaged him 3 times over this matter & I was ignored 3 times. The packaging was very poor also. I ended up giving him a negative. His response was to accuse me of not contacting him to resolve the issue & I quote..."I negative you because you negative me". Is this what the feedback is for? I think we all have hard luck stories from ebay. That's life isn't it? If both sellers & buyers think the feedback system doesn't work then it obviously needs changing & no doubt in time it will. <<<Edited by tights24 to make FAMILY FRIENDLY>>>

To me, the answer is simple. For argument sake, lets say you assign first responsibility for posting feedback to the buyer with the parameters that they cannot respond until the item is receive and accepted or returned or some adjustment has been made to the satisfaction of both parties. You could even place a time constrain of say 30 days or less. If the feedback from either party is not placed in the alloted time, they receive a bad grade automatically from ebay. Now, as soon as the buyer posts their feedback, a indicator goes up to the seller showing that the buyer has posted their feedback and they must now post theirs, say within 48 hours. However, no one gets to see the feedback until both are posted. Now there would be no retaliatory feedback only experience would come into play. Hopefully, and because of this format, both buyer and seller would be on their best behavior because their feedback would truly be rated on the transaction experience. All other ebay systems for removing feedback and or even arbitration could probably still be utilized as they are. The big problem with the feedback system is that someone has to go first Also, for fear of receiving bad feedback we tend not to leave bad feedback for fear of the same. I think this would create more accurate feedback and maybe even better transactions between buyer and seller. Jim

I think Jim's idea is a much fairer way of giving feedback than the current system. It gets my vote. At last the fog is lifting!

Exactly. On top of that the buyer is the one at risk. As a buyer, I'm sending my hard earned money on the (assumption) I'm not going receive a box of nails. If, after the transaction, the seller never receives payment.. woopy do. They're inconvenienced but they still have the item.

Jim, excellent idea!
Both parties are (required) to leave feedback. But the feedback does not register until BOTH parties have left theirs.

Agreed. Casey, please don't feel like we are ganging up on you. I edited your topic and made it known in red because that was not a good word. I have enjoyed reading all of your posts, and I don't think they were ever taken out of context by us or others here. Just wanted to make sure you knew to proof read them before posting to make sure they are family friendly in the future is all. Cheers.

Let's get back to the issue of feedback on eBay--here's my take: feedback is not a mandatory part of the ebay experience. It takes time and energy. If I sell something and all goes well and I don't get + feedback, I don't really care. If I buy something I don't always leave positive feedback. I don't leave negative feedback, only "negative positive" feedback; that is positive feedback with neutral or negative comments. I NEVER rely on a seller's feedback number alone. You have to read the comments.

I am wondering why ebay Power Sellers can have so many negatives and not be shut down while regular sellers get the boot?

No one gets shutdown for negatives, there's always another reason that you're not aware of. Also keep in mind that "No longer a registered user" does not mean they were shut down. They could have closed their own account and it would say the same thing.
