What about the sunshine rounds and bars that have the neat mintmark si or whatever its called? I'm sure somebody could figure out how to do it, but it's not something that can be done by hand

@BP, That's what I recommended too; sunshine rounds with mintmark si.
However, people still believe 90% silver is harder to fake ... go figure. I guess we really need to have some members who worked at mint facility to share some thoughts on counterfeit difficulties.

We are not sating it is impossible to fake 90% silver. We are saying it is easier to spot fakes by sight, rather than weighing and doing acid and magnet tests. Plus, you think everyone is going to have one of those cards? And if you have one, is someone going to trust that yours is legit, it is not a matter of logic in a dire situation. People don't always believe in things.

There isn't an easy way to test silver now; however, since silver price is so low; it is pretty hard to purchase a fake from most dealers. If Silver becomes highly sought, the most recognized form might be the first victim of counterfeiters. It is just a risk/reward consideration. That's why there are many fake numis on ebay, too. So for now, I don't see any edge on 90% silver, at all. Other than the "history" hype or numis value sales pitch.

Why limit it to 90% silver. I've picked up plenty of foreign silver (.835, .720, .640, .300, even .100) at 5 or 6 for a dollar. Got a 1962 peso for 20 cents today. Have picked up a Swiss 5 franc for the same price. Hard to beat.

You still fail to see what 90% has to offer? Wow. We have explained it already.

I don't know if I can post a youtube link, but this is why I think junk silver will be more or less useless in the even of the dollar collapse. most people don't understand pm values http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSqA1dRgfbA

If you really want to prep for a doomsday scenario, stockpile canned food, water and toilet paper. I think a nice jumbo roll of Charmin will hold value much better than silver after the apocalypse!

It may take a long time, if ever, in a doomsday scenario, for silver to ever to be a currency.

Quote: Don't understand why people stack non 999 silver You do not need to.People stack/hoard what they want be it food, foreign silver of various ASW, U.S. 40%, 90%, or .999 silver whatever they feel like stacking/hoarding it is their choice. Any reason they give for stacking/hoarding what they do is valid for any number of circumstances.

Folks would use oak leaves over Charmin, and skip lunch and dinner, just to keep control of their vices! Sorry, I'm getting a bit off-topic
