I bought a bag of junk world coins off of an old coworker for a couple bucks. In there was a fake British pound coin (mushy details, sloppy edge lettering). When I found out it was fake, I lost interest in it and left it in a store for a kid to find. I wish that I had kept it for my own kids to enjoy, but I like to think it found a good home.
I do regret not offloading my small silver stash when prices topped $45/oz in 2011, and also not starting CRHing halves before the silver craze was in full swing. But, I might as well regret not investing in Apple stock or not registering the twitter.com domain.

Agree with Cascade and moxking. When I have sold, it was usually to start another series, and I reckon I did as well or better in the new area - not to mention learning much more at the same time. Most of the fun (for me) is in the chase anyway, not looking at what I have.

I've never sold a coin. Not to say that day won't come...it just hasn't yet.

The biggest regret I have is selling 2 90% silver halves, including the only Franklin I've ever found in the wild, and a 40% half.... and mailing them in a regular envelope. This was back when the lot was valued at around $30 because of silver. The coins were either lost out of a broken envelope or stolen, and I refunded all of the money. I was a poor high school student so that hurt a ton.

10+ years ago when silver was still dirt cheap I sold a few rolls of circulated Mercury dimes for $35 each and a roll of mostly Good-VG late date Barber dimes for $50. I regret that quite a bit. I'm sure my LCS 20+ years ago, the owner regrets selling my schoolboy self many problem free, good-to-VF but common date silver coins at 8x face (later 10x), try that nowadays. (I picked up several XF-AU Morgans for $10 each and a XF40 scratched/details Seated Liberty dime for $1.00, all of which are still in my collection.)

Back around 1965, I spent 7 silver quarters, just to get rid of them, as I sometimes do with excess pennies today. Right after I spent them, I realized that I shouldn't have, and I started saving away all silver coins that came my way.

I remember something. A long time ago, before I started collecting, I spent a star note. I was at a vending machine getting some food of some sort, when I noticed the star. I thought, "hmm, do all bills have that?" and then spent it.

Here's one just a little different. Long time ago, my Grandfather came by a cache of mixed Morgans and Liberties and gave one to my Mom on each of her birthdays (as he did for my brother and I until he died). So my Mom goes to marry my Dad and she buys his wedding ring with ... you guessed it. And at face value.

No regrets selling any coins because all the money gained was used for adding to my paper money collection.

Probably $400-$500 face in WL and Franklins, Mercs, plus Wa Quarters and close to 200 silver dollars. But it was at the time the Hunts drove up the market so the price up so high that a lot of nice coins went into the melting pot. Now they are scarce. Also several gold $20`s.
Thanks to DIVORCE

My collection of Two Cent Pieces all TPG in MS66, including Proofs (not in PR66, though I wish, the Small Motto was only a MS64), missing only the 1864 Small Motto Proof. Sold it off for a good reason, to pay hospital bills for my Dad when his Parkinson's got bad. But I still wish I had been able to keep it. The discovery coin for 1878-S VAM72, I sold the coin a nice VF/EF to Larry Briggs, along with another nice find from the same junk bucket (EF/AU 1878-P 8TF VAM9), I did not know the long nock was an unidentified VAM at the time, but did know it was a long nock. However, to be fair, Larry paid me really well for the two dollars, over $2K in cash and trade, I paid only $14 for the pair of them out of a local shop's junk bucket. I've since purchased several of the VAM9's and a VAM72. I used to buy and sell large cents all the time as a dealer, way before I ever knew about Sheldon varieties - DOH! Wonder what I let slip through there!
