Oh yeah, there's a market for that stuff. Next you will see the spin offs. After searching for gold, it can be resold to search for diamonds. Then fossils, uranium, moon rocks and clues to the JFK murder.

I got a few bags of boogers (pokemon goo... very trendy!) and several used diapers. If interested, send me a PM!

Reminds me of those Gem Mining tourist attractions where you buy a big bucket of dirt with colored glass someone put into each and then the kids get to pan through it. Ridiculously expensive and yes, I spent the money for my kids when they were little because the wanted to do it soooooo bad. As in, c'mon dad, pleeeeeeease? I drew the line however when they wanted to do it again the next night.

Quote: Unsearched dirt? Been going on for YEARS. And as Chute72 said, although I'm not sure he meant it, you can also buy unsearched dirt/gravel and search for gemstones.

They just took a few cubic meters of dirt from my yard. I think I'll keep it and sell it on the internet, telling people to look for 'Viking age remains' in my unsearched dirt. It's probably the best value I can get for it.

You folks realize that this is completely different from unsearched coin rolls, right? The entire hobby of panning involves "searching" dirt for gold. Thus making this not as "crazy" as people are making it out to sound.

Thus making this not as "crazy" as people are making it out to sound. My worry is that people create these "unsearched" dirt bags by taking a scoop of dirt, throw in a preset amount of scrap gold nuggets and sell it as if it was unsearched. That way everyone finds a little gold in their dirt and everyone is happy. Seller has a guaranteed money maker since they control the exact amount of gold in each bag and are sure it is less than the sale price.

"unsearched dirt"? This is the main coin forum, not the main coon forum...

KenKat: I am fairly certain that is indeed what is happening. However, regardless, so what? I fail to see the problem if the buyer and seller are pleased with the transaction.

Quite possibly, and some of the better "unsearched" roll people salt their rolls as well in order to get feedback from people that find something which encourages more people to try. No real difference. Frankly you probably have more buyers happy with their unsearched dirt than with their unsearched rolls. And say you actually had a claim on a placer deposit that was producing some gold. You could go through the back breaking work of panning it yourself and recovering the gold, Or you can just shovel it into bags and sell the dirt for more then the amount of gold you have been recovering. You don't get to keep the gold, but you get more money for less work. Let the buyers do the work. Seems like a good deal to me.
