aleroe, wow that's no junk coin. I found a no date SLQ that had a barely discernible 1 in the last digit spot making it a 1921. Still it's a AG-3 at best. I felt like I had found shangri-la. Your barber half is amazing.

I had two really nice Morgan dollar finds that came out of a bucket of junk dollars priced at bullion. 7 or 8 dollars at the time.

1878-P VAM9 the first Morgan dollar die pair. In AU

1878-S VAM72 long arrow nock, EF condition this coin was traded to Larry Briggs in 2002, which he then discovered it was different than any other long nock coin and it became the discovery piece of VAM72. Doh, I was concentrating on 8TF then, and only knew I had a long nock, just not which one, guess I should have studied it a bit longer. Though I still got a bit over $1000 in trade on other coins plus some cash. Not bad for an $8.00 buy.

Bought a lot of nice barbers, and some junk silver came with them, so only paid for the barbers in a sense.
One of the "junk" coins turned out to be a 1916 SLQ
Paid $90 for the lot
Sold the 1916 raw on ebay for $2,500

Here's my thread from way back in 2013 regarding the coin

Alore, we definitely need to hear the rest of the story. Barber slicks are common, but Barbers of that quality are not. My best junk find was two 1932-D quarters in a purchase of 90% junk silver.

I got a 1916 D Mercury dime from an antique store dime box for about $2.50 a few years back.. Now it's in a ANACs AG-3 Holder and probably one of my favourite coins.

During the past almost two years, I've been going to this coin shop (now closed) where I could pick-and-mix junk coins for 75 SEK/kg (~$4.50/lb). Every time I was there I always found atleast one silver coin in the mix. Turns out I got quite the collection after those two years. These are most, but not all silvers I got:

The lot weighs about 226 grams and would have cost me 17 SEK (~$2). Needless to say they're worth much more than that.

I got much more from that store including some fully uncirculated 1930's Swedish silvers and Morgans for silver melt, but I don't have those illustrated.

I couldn't tell you, I've got so many good deals that I honestly can't even personally remember myself.

Best for ebay: 1913 D T2 nickel marked as a 1913 D T1 coin, but pictures showed T2. Managed to win it for $7. Don't know if that counts as junk lot, just a cool coin I got for basically nothing that's worth $$$

Junk silver dimes: Countless Barber dimes, half a dozen Seated dimes, 1926 S x3, 1931 PDS, UNC mercury's, uncommon dates all @ melt
Junk silver quarters: Two Seated quarters @ melt, tons of Barber quarters from AG to F+, SLQ's with full dates 1925-1930S, 1932 S Washington along with many other different UNC washingtons and filler/uncommon dates
Junk nickels: At least 2 dozen 1883 N/C nickels from G-AU+ for $0.25, 1884,1887,1888,1889,1894,1912S all for junk price ($0.25-$0.75), Buff's that are partial and full date, but thrown in the junk buff bin for $0.25-$0.75 apiece (this includes 1913 S T1, 1914 in XF with luster, and all the rest here are G-XF+: 1915PS, 1916PDS, 1917PD, 1918PDS, 1919PS and a beautiful 1919D in VF, 1920PDS, 1921, 1923PS, 1924PDS, 1925PDS, 1926P and 1926 S x5 at least or more, ranging from G-VF, 1931 S, along with high grade AU+ 30's coins)
Junk cents: 1909 VDB x25 at least (all these were got for $0.05 apiece), 1910S, 1911PD, 1912PD, 1913PDS, 1914PS, 1915PDS, 1916PDS, 1917PDS, 1918PDS, 1919PDS, 1920PDS, 1921PS, 1922D x4, 1923PS, 1924PS and a 1924D, 1925PDS, 1926PD and quite a few 1926S's, 1927PDS, 1928PDS, 1929PDS, 1930PDS, 1931PD, 1932PD, 1933PD and so on...

Junk Halves: Countless Barber halves in AG-VG+, Walking halves (1916S in AG I got a few weeks ago, 1917 D obv mintmark also got same day as 1916S, 1919P in amazing condition; a nice F-VF at least, and other misc dates from the 20's and 30's and some nice AU-UNC 1940's as well)
Junk dollars: Not much here, but did manage to get a 1903 S Morgan with VG details, reverse is also rainbow colored from what appears to be some chemical that spilled on it, maybe gas? Also was a 1894 O Dollar in VG+

Can't really think of anything else but there's def a lot more. Little over half a dozen Shield nickels from FR-02 to VG+, several 2 cent pieces for $8 apiece.

My best situation like this was a guy at a local flea market with buckets full of coins. Two buckets. One with US coins and one with foreign coins. Digging through the US ones I found lots and lots of Mercury dimes in every possible grade and each one was $1. And the more I bought, the lower the price. No difference in price for dates or grade, just $1 each. After many times with him I averaged about $0.90 each and eventually ended up with a few thousand of them. Best ones were 1942/41, 21, 26S and those were all in EF grades.

The story behind is that I bought a small purse on a fleamarket, and inside, voila, a nice barber. It was in a neat condition, but loads of verdigris, which removed nicely with acetone, however, seems like NGC didn't quite like that. (I am a proffesional coin-dealer, so I know my way around restoring coins, just as good as NCS(almost atleast)), this is the first time I've gotten a coin back improperly cleand.
I've also found a 1853-O arrows dime in a junklot, now in an NGC- AU-holder. Also gotten an IHC 1886 type 2, now in an MS61 grade. So, Yeah, quite a good bunch of allright american stuff over here in Norway.
also, a completely flat 1794-cent, but still readable date :D
