yup, well circulated. I would make you an offer, but I'm afraid shipping will exceed the cost of the coin. If you come across any other |Canadian coins in the collection. PM me a pic and maybe we can bundle a shipment. Enjoy the treasure hunt.

Looks like you have your hands full for a while. Did I miss what your intent was with your hoard of coins? Are you sorting to sell or going to complete book sets? What's your favorite coin?

It was my Fathers, he owned bars for 40 years. Never sorted through them, enjoyed his work too much.Gonna organize and then figure it out, I'm not the only child. The Peace dollars are beautiful.

Sorry, really new to this. I have them broken down in by silver grade right now, finishing pulling war nickels(any pre 60) and then outside of the war, I have them by decades. Dimes are split by silver at the moment with some winged liberty subdvided but a couple gallons left to sort. Quaters are are silver spit with some early ones set off. The half dollars are split by Style and silver(JFK). When Book sets You mean one coin from each mint for that year right? What would the pro's and con's be? Doing this for my Mom.
Are the sets only worth doing for silver or clad or both? What quality should the coind be if I'm going to book them? My payment for this is the pennies.... why they're omitted, they are going last.....

to the forums! You may want to post these questions to the U.S. Classic sub-forum on this site for more visibility since the bulk of your coins would fall into that era. Looks like you have a considerable amount of 90% silver coinage. Probably best to sort it out based on demomination and then split it into series (i.e. split the Standing Liberty quarters from the Washington quarters OR split the Mercury dimes from the Roosevelt dimes). Most is just going to be "junk silver" while some could be considerably better due to high grade or due to be a rare key date that collectors are after for their collections. Some useful resources below. PCGS Photograde (help with grading) https://www.PCGS.com/photograde/ NumisMedia (price guide to help determine key dates from common dates) http://www.numismedia.com/rarecoinprices/fmv.shtmlMost of all don't be afraid to ask questions. Hope this helps. Joe

Would suggest taking one series at a time. Each has it's rare and important coins/mintmarks. For instance, Washington quarters. Start in 1932 ,the D & S mints are considered rare in any grade. Silver coins run up to 1964, clads start 1965. I would further subdivide by decade at the outside if not by stacking each date and mintmark. Yea, lot of work, but it sounds and looks like you have quite a potential for A LOT of valuable single coins. If you have 5-1932D's and a couple 1916D Mercury dimes, one of you can quit working Seperate by decade then study a source like the Red Book. This will show you values of those specific goodies to look for based on how many were minted...less minted, highr the value. Separating by metal content is just part of this hoards value. I take it you don't know a coin collector you trust to help you, that would certainly help. Offer them something for their help, believe me, it'll be worth it.

Looks like a heck of coins you have there Narrowback44. It will probably take you a while to separate into each type of denominations. In case you are not familiar, any dimes, quarters, halves, & dollars on or before 1964 are 90% silver. 1965 to 1970 Kennedy halves are 40% silver. Not very popular compared to 90%, but still you have some silver in them. And you know about silver Ikes since you mentioned in this thread. Most of the clad coins probably are not worth that much sitting in plastic bins. Good luck and sort those coins and post some pictures of coins that you think might have good values. There are real experts in this forum who can give you "un"-biased opinions. Welcome BTW.

Thank you. will hopefully have stage one complete this weekend. Buffalo nickels are not fun. So many dates gone? any suggestions? Red Book ordered on Tuesday. Most of the coins were in bank bags to some extent or other, most in wrappers or what were wrappers. the clad was mostly loose in bags. They've only been sitting in plastic for a week. Looking for someone who knows coins.
