I stopped collecting most US coins other than what I find I circulation. I first learned the ropes of numismatics when I was younger and collecting US stuff, but I soon realized that Many world coins have just so much history and are so aesthetically pleasing. To quote Dante, "I am a citizen of the world," and therefore I collect all that appeals to me from everywhere on Earth.

..... ...... ...... Quote: I haven't stopped anything but like DeathJr, I've had to put some things on hold. I'm a hoarder. I have so many different series to work on right now that there is no way to get them all. So many of them get put on the back burner for a while. That's spot on with me too !.....

I haven't stopped collecting any series yet, but I might stop collecting all US modern coins except the $50 gold Eagle, $50 gold Buffalo, and American Silver Eagle series if they don't stop the madness SOON.

i stopped collecting the bicentennial stuff...no value. however I keep everything "s" mint mark. I'm not sure if they are rare but over here on the east cost you don't see a lot of them. Anyone from California: how often do you get "D" and "p"?¿

Even though I still have them, I stopped worrying about Canadian coins since I moved south and stopped finding them in my change all the time. I guess that does not really count, because if I found one tomorrow I would keep it if I needed it!

Thirty-five years ago I had a stroke of wisdom and gave my brother my two dollar bills and silver certificates before my ex-wife got them. Never got any more.

I stopped collecting Kennedy half dollars and Sacagawea dollars as soon as the mint started the madness of Mint Set only issues. I just can't see spending more than face value to fill a modern set. But that is just me. I prefer older coins and silver coins anyway. I have not mentioned it in the past, but non commemorative NIFC coins may be my number one numismatic pet peeve.

Never really stopped any collections. Some get put aside for a while but then if I see one, I start that one again.

I never really stopped collecting I just stopped buying. The only coins I collect now are ones I find in circulation. Actually there is one type of coins I stopped collecting and that is the State Quarters. If I find a NIFC or error State Quarter then Ill keep it but other than that no.

Long ago, I collected Mercury dimes and when I got back into collecting, I decided against trying to restart them for two reasons: (1) dimes are just too small; and (2) the whole Full Band thing is annoying -- it focuses so much value on such a particularly insignificant feature. Still, it's a great design and I may pick them back up at some point.

I started with junk box world coins as a kid as well as US and Canadian stuff. I still have those coins but now I focus on Chinese/Japanese/Asian coins with a particular interest in chopmarked coins. Nowadays most mints seam to crank out all kinds of 'commemorative coins' [state quarters, Presidential dollars, etc.] Buying all these series will bankrupt you quickly. So I've stopped actively buying coins minted after 1963 - the year of my birth. I would much rather have a old coin with some history than a set of MS-65 State Quarters.

Similar to Archraz, I've nearly stopped buying US coins all together. I think that world coins offer a larger variety at much more reasonable prices.

Ikes and Susan B Anthonys for starters. My Mom gave me all of my Dads coins when he died and he had some of each. I started working on finishing what he started and then decided at one point that I couldn't afford to work on everything I inherited and so I needed to narrow my focus a bit. Those weren't worth much and I don't really care for the way either of them look to tell you the truth so I sold what I had. Did the same with proof and mint sets. Sacagaweas were something I started on my own and got away from when I cleaned house. Also I haven't gotten any Liberty nickels in quite a while since I worked the set down to the big three. I don't know that I've abandoned the set but I don't see myself shelling out that kind of money for those and have been looking to sell what I've got from time to time so I'll probably move on sooner or later once I sell them.
