I don't like the look of the rim on both sides. Not a coin I would buy. A larger photo of the obverse would help.

Thanks silverwolf. Looks like a cropped photo so can't see the entire rim on both sides. Like I mentioned, not a coin I would buy.

I've come across "the docktor" before. Have to say the username doesn't inspire a lot of trust when dealing with coins...

Must be some really new collectors on ebay all the time. I have not been collecting long, but am starting to know what to look for, and when in doubt check here with those who know more than I do. This coin went for over $8000 last night, and in checking with the comps that sold a cleaned AU in a slab goes between 2-3 thousand.

That coin went for some serious money. I'd wouldn't spend that kind of money on a raw coin. I do like the die crack on the reverse though.

yes and if it is cleaned as everyone here has commented I don't think you will get the slab you want. I do understand buying raw coins, but it is riskier, and you need to know a lot, but for example if this coin where not cleaned and you picked it up for even $12,000 you could be looking at a real windfall if it came back ms 60.... thanks for all the help everyone

While true, that type of thinking is exactly what the people cracking out details coins to sell raw are banking on. 99.9 percent of bad buys can be eliminated by looking at things without thinking about potential windfalls. There's almost always a reason why a 4 figure numismatic coin is raw and basically all but a minuscule percentage are bad for the buyer.

I've came across that seller before when I was searching. Have you guys read his little paragraph under the item details part? It's the same on all the coins add. Something about a big safe was found during demo on a 200+ yr old building. Another "fantasy" story. These guys know exactly what they're doing. His add says his stuff is 100% guaranteed authentic.

this seller is notorious for selling detail coins, and for buying detail coins, and cracking them out, and getting stupid money for them, that safe must of had a fake wall in the back of it, for all the coins he has sold.. there is no limits to what he has and will continue to sell , as long as there is uniformed buyers to complete the transactions.. Buyer beware,, always with this seller.. Just click on his sold items, and search from highest to lowest price.. You will be shocked by the sheer volume of sales he does..

His cute little story always seemed a little too good to be true.
