Today's picture is not actually an American Silver Eagle, but it is something that every one that collects silver eagles should own. Not only does the book cover the actual coins themselves, it covers the history of the ASE, one very interesting topic (among many) was how the ASE ended up reusing Adolph Weinman's classic Walking Liberty from the 1916 to 1947 50 cent piece. The reason wasn't that there weren't many gifted sculptors, it was because of the 1986 Olympics. The commemorative coins for the olympics weren't well received (and if you look at them, you'll know why), and as the Mint Director (Donna Pope) was more interested in creating a non controversial coin rather than an artistic expression, the choice of Weiman's and Augustus Saint-Gaudens' liberty was predetermined. In my opinion, a very good decision. See why you need to get the book. but while you can buy one at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Book-A...2C163&sr=8-9Yours won't be as cool as mine I have a few fellow collectors that I email on a regular basis. Not only do we talk coin topics we also talk about family and life outside the Coin World. One of the fellow collectors asked me for my help in photoshopping a few of his pictures, which I did because he needed my help. I never expect anything in return, friends do favors for friends. In return he knows I collect ASE and he knows the author (Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez) from FUN. He asked Josh to autograph my copy. So my copy is extra special.

My library had the Mercanti book and I read it but for me the McMorrow-Hernandez book is better, while both cover the ASE and how they came to be, McMorrow-Hernandez covered it more factual. While to me Mercanti did more trivia. In terms of which to get, one should get both. Mercanti cuts off in 2020 (and the last Mercanti reverse was produced in 2021). while McMorrow-Hernandez covers the full Mercanti series and new ASE and the changes made.

Thanks all! I was really surprised when it came in! I was in NYC and my wife text me to tell I had a package. I asked her to open it she sent a picture of the inscription and I had a big goofy grin.
Lets just say I was very happy.

Another nice Eagle - I'm chasing the bullion too, but not graded like yours though. Keep up the chase!
