The James Buchanan just came out and even though they are new seems like I can never find one in nice condition! I have a Philly mint for you SD! Oh and one thing....we talked about this before...you dont have to give tellers cookies or donuts or anything...they are doing their jobs! they work with money...thats what they do! give the donuts to police men!

just picked up 2 rolls of james buchanan, with the intent of selling them, now not sure, maybe sell one and keep one? I think they are straight from the mint, at least that is what someone said, but it also says N.F. String & Son Inc. Harrisburg, PA. so I am guessign these are from the Philly mint, is this correct? and if so does that mean they would be a BU roll?

cntryislandboy - I am pretty sure that is a roll of BU coins. I grab these rolls from my bank and they've always been BU. I get usually 3-4 rolls of each president, 1 to keep, 1 to sell, and 2 to crack open and find some near perfect coins for my albums.

I collect them because they cost me a $1. I'm not kidding myself that these will be worth much but it is a set that I can finish.

I buy a roll of Denver mint every 3 months when they come out. I really like them. Although they don't have much value and never probably will they still look nice. I figure if I keep them in their mint rolls they will at some time increase in their value. Not any worse than the interest on a bank account. They sell here for $5-$10 over what you pay in the bank for a BU roll and $2 a coin in BU at shows in the Minnesota area. So right there you are in a sense making a profit if you can sell them.

I started to collect them in circulated condition. But now looking at the coins the design is to cheesy and not much eye appeal. IMHO. Thank goodness, I didn't get to far down the road before I stopped collecting them.

The Buchanan Dollar might be a bit of a sleeper. Production ended early. The final mintages were announced even before the coins' release date! Denver Mint Gift Shop sold out their Buchanan allocation in a couple of weeks. Last Friday, they were selling 2010-D Native American dollars. Most likely, Denver Mint did another run of Natives to prepare for the expected ramp-up of mintage for the Lincoln Presidential dollar. PS: "Golden" Dollars look best as Proofs

It is amusing when the mint announces " Final Production Numbers (FPN)." Just a few short months ago they announced the Hot Springs FPN and then with the other half of their forked tongue announced that industrial purchasers were able to buy Ballistic Bags of fifty thousand dollars until the end of the year, despite those FPN announcements. It would be kinda like them saying" FPN for the 2012 ASE are six gazillion", or some such schlock. I bought early on the Mint's abandoned promise that they would not State Park us with the ATB Quarters (I use "State Park" as a verb; meaning produce enough ATB Quarters to manufacture the next GM auto line for two years). Then box upon box of ATB arrive here, having never seen even one box of State Park quarters in this area. Clearly, this is them punking us like the HSN punks their sucker buyer base, and not much more. Expect to see these quarters produced en-masse, ubiquitous as McDonald's french fries. Eat up, at least the first few taste good.

They did kind of ' kill the golden goose ' by making more Hot Springs "D" Quarters. I subsequently spent four BU rolls of them while I was on vacation in Seattle. Do note that the " mintages not final until the end of the issue year " policy applies only to the A.T.B. Quarters.

Hey folks, if you hit the go back arrow while editing, these duplicate posts appear. Just a note to me, LOL.
