Canadian? Copper Thistle Token - Coin Community Forum

west- canuk Valued Member Canada 497 Posts	Posted 10/18/2011 5:07 pm Hello everybody, I'm trying to identify this possibly Canadian copper token. It's about the size of a dime, but only about 1/4 the thickness maybe due to wear.There appears to be a thistle on one side, can make out an I and W underneath. The other side could have D G on it, at 12 oclock in the 2nd pic. Any and all help appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

Smallcentguy Pillar of the Community Canada 1984 Posts	Posted 10/18/2011 6:05 pm It is in remarkably poor shape but it looks quite like something I have that took some work to identify. I think it might be a Scottish Bodlle of about 1695 of William II. I found an auction reference to it at http://www.coinarchives.com in the Dix Noonan Webb auction of June 30, 2004 lot 717. PS I just double checked the site and I see it is no longer a free site. I printed out the page from the catalogue and I think that this is what it is. Smallcentguy Pillar of the Community Canada 1984 Posts	Posted 10/18/2011 6:57 pm Here you go. http://www.scran.ac.uk/database/rec...00-509-758-C As I look at the design elements, there are many similarites both in the thistle and the inscription, but I don't think it is an exact match. Yours seems cruder and thus likely older. But I think it might be a Bodle. Mine is a similar size to what you describe and the basic design elements are the same. Smallcentguy Pillar of the Community Canada 1984 Posts	Posted 10/18/2011 8:52 pm A well-informed Krause-equipped collector tells me this is Scottish 1660 to 1680 and is either a 2 pence (bodle) or 6 pence. I think your description suggests 2 pence. Report this Post to the Staff
