PCGS have given it AU-55, I think it would make EF but not much above that. There is some scrqtches in the obverse fields and a small dark stain. If this is AU then I've undervalued my collection.
Also seems to have some sort of metal impurity with all those yellow specks.
Like most Australians, I am not keen on slabbed coins, but I can see the value in a grade numbering system above 'uncirculated'.
As long as the word 'uncirculated' has strong definition to it, that is, the coin has no wear on it at all, to be found under 10 x magnification.
This coin has obvious wear on the high points. That wear is relatively recent (last 20 years), because the patina has been rubbed off those high points.
Quote: gEF even with those scratches and ugly stains?
The stains don't change the grade of the coin, they only affect the eye appeal.
There are a couple of deep scratches on the slab itself (another reason to stay away from slabs) but the coin itself only has a couple of small ones which would hardly be noticed to the eye.
