hogpapa New Member Canada 2 Posts	Posted 03/10/2012 10:17 am I am trying too identify a coin that is identical to the Australian Gold sovereign but in silver. Inscription on front:Victoria-Dei-Gra-Britt-Regina-Fid-Def-Ind-Imp. Left profile female bust. flip side: St George slaying the dragon. 1894. It also has inscription in the edge. Nevol Formerly nancyc Australia 5385 Posts	Posted 03/10/2012 4:09 pm A crown is a very large coin, 39.0 mm 30.0 g and is .925 Silver, 0.8409 oz. ASW. If the edge inscription is LVII, that's definitely a Crown. Current CV's in UKÂ£: Denom Year F VF EF Unc 5s 1894LVII Â£20 Â£45 175 Â£400 The edge inscription (LVII after the date) is the Regnal year, ie the number of years since Victoria came to the throne (1894 - 1837 = 57) This is a great site for UK coins: http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/fives.html life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved Report this Post to the Staff
