I have never got a bank bag. What value is that?

The banks I go to here in California are totally sublime when it comes to old notes and coins. It's tough to make friends with some of these tellers and bank managers.

I deposited some noodled coins at the Bank today in the coin counting machine. It stopped half way through and needed to be emptied by one of the staff. Inside were bags full of hundreds of dollars of coins. Behind the tellers were more bags with hundreds of dollars in them. When you consider all the customers they have, all the shops depositing/withdrawing change, I find the odds that we will get coins we've already noodled given back to us to be pretty much zero.
While my process may look overly complicated, it actually takes me no extra effort to do it this way, so what is the downside? On the other hand, the bank I regularly get 50c coins from recently has run out of 50c for the last 2 weeks. If I had been returning coins to them I definately would have been given the same coins back again. Therefore, taking the coins back to a different branch is a good idea. If I am doing that, why not a different bank with a different coin supplier? |

Dibby, the armaguard bags come in different sizes for different denominations. The 5c bags are blue and $2, the 10c is purple and $4, 20c is green and $4, 50c is yellow/orange and $10. They then get put into large sealed plastic bags for easy delivery. The 5c and 10c come in big bags of $100 and the 20c and 50c are bags of $200.

Just throwing my experience in the ring;
I prefer to receive a bank bag than Armaguard bags --> there have been a few times when it would appear someone has dropped off their money box which has been sitting on their shelf since the 1970s, so you find a lot of early date coins in super condition. My best ever find was 4 1972 5c pieces in the $100 bank bag, those 4 were 'friends' with a crapload of pre 1975 coins. Can only assume they'd been living together for a long time.

i just returned some old 20 dollar and 5 dollar note to bank last friday. I may find out more, therefore if someone wanna them let me know, you pay postage :)

I have not had many bank filled bsgs, but the 50c one I had,recently with many good condition coins was filled by the bank, so that seems to follow Tim's theory.

A member picked up 70 last week from the bank. Most of the tellers are aware of them if nothing else and you will find it hard to get them.

Round 50c are sometimes given out by bank branches, though I think it is pretty rare.
Someone reported bring given 70 a few days ago. They must have been stashed somewhere and the branch staff did not get around to disposing of them.
It has never happened for me.

yes, for me as well. I tried few years ago when round 50 cent worth 3 bucks ea, in that time my local bank staffs already knew round 50 cent have silver content :( they even recommend me the dealer who will pay higher price...

lucky guy! I mean it's reasonable to find out 1 or 2 pieces if cash out a 200 calico bank bags but found 70 pieces in one shot! that must be lucky!
