I found this while searching through some wheat pennies today, does anyone have a clue as to what type of error this is and maybe value. As you can see the 1 in the date is almost sideways and is touching the 9. Sorry the picture is not the greatest but it is the best I could get.

I have a question about the # 1 on these coins.. Could it be possible that the 1 got stuck to the die during the stamping , and fell back onto the coin ? sounds crazy but the ones I have have no markes near the 1 , and it looks to have stuck to the coin .. just being curious ..

These are all a result of damage to the coin. They are not errors, and that's just the simple truth. Because of the damage they have NO numismatic value.

Can you explain that a little more in detail Coppercoins, this penny is not bent or doesn't have any sign of damage other then some scratches. What could cause just the 1 to become crooked without any damage to the other numbers or coin?

Something outside the Mint hit it, shoving the 1 to go crooked like that. I've seen several like this. to the CCF!

Just as the above post said, this is not a possible error and is just damage.

Jmacdaddy77 - no offence but you must have a better understanding of the minting process to understand why this is so easily dubbed PMD. Its pretty rude to question the people you are asking for help, especially when these folks have more than 11 posts of experience to their names.

Hello Henry. That's an oddly damaged coin. I find coins like that strangely appealing and wonder how they happened. Thanks for sharing.
