Just went to the post office and I politely asked for a roll, but she said 5 coins per person only. Oh well, I tried.
Btw, does it matter if it comes in plastic or paper wrap?

Picked up a roll. Paper wrapping.

Had to go to three different post office outlets before I found one that would sell a complete roll. The first two told me 5 coin limit.

Got a roll this morning. Plastic wrapping.

Incidently, both ends of my roll show the obverse. Seems Odd.

Man, I'm such a sucker for "any" type of Canadian quarter ... I must have OCD because apparently I "must" have one of each type of quarter, so I admit that I've pre-ordered all "8" of the CFL quarters, plus I ordered the tenth coin in the bird-series ...

Honestly, I actually really love the bird-series ... I have all 10 of the coins and I personally think that they are probably the only 35mm quartes that I really enjoy looking at ... again, yah, I think that they are kinda cool ...

... hey, don't judge me!!

Lol. I have all the birds but the CFL are a pass for me. But they did have all of them at the PO this morning. Easier to buy there than wait two months for the RCM to ship. ;)

ps I think that is the new business plan to keep CP propped up.

Mr piedfort
No it doesn't matter. I just thought it was interesting that they had 2 different packaging.
I'm taking the full rolls no matter what they are in!

Sadly, our poor lil' Northern Post Office doesn't always get the new coins, lickety-split ...

Hey => but I do love dropping-by our local post office to view all of the new coins (yup, there is definitely something super-cool and super retro about going to the post office, eh?) ......... it reminds me of when my dear ol' Granny was still alive and when she'd take us to Super-Value, to the bank, and then to the post office ...

... awesome memories ...

=> man, I love coins!

When asked how they can make money exchanging $1 for $1, the post office said:

VOLUME!
VOLUME!
VOLUME!

On a serious note, I'd be surprised if CP is distributing these coins without compensation but the real benefit is traffic.

I went there to get the new coin but I also looked at other coins they had and would have bought some if they had any of the coins that are sold out at the Mint. Beyond that, I added to the customer totals that day which is used to support keeping CP in business. (i.e. providing a public service despite being unprofitable)

I went to two local post offices and both said they haven't gotten any. One said they get their change from Brinks and not the Mint, and the ladies there said they had no idea about the coins. Am I the only one who's encountered this problem?

I have four post offices in my general area, one didn't get them. Check link on first page for locations.
Second post office had limit of 5 coins from paper roll.
Third had 40 rolls yesterday and they were selling by the roll all in plastic wrap or coin exchange.
Fourth place had about 5 or 6 rolls all paper, sold rolls or coin exchange.

It is suppose to be a 5 coin limit, but I think some locations don't realize or just don't care

I picked up a roll today no questions asked. They were paper rolls. I opened one roll and all the coins have dings and scratches. Bright and shiny but beat al to hell. On a positive note, the post office had some uncirculated sets for half price.

The faster they get rid of these coins the sooner their cashiers can deal with real customers making real money.

Actually I think its a smart move by the Mint. In this scenario they sent to only 4000 locations,
whereas shipping X number of PL 5 packs to X number of customers with free shipping was probably cutting into profits.
Not to mention wages for filling orders...

This has also provided a more fair means to distribute the coins, that is if it was kept to the 5 coin limit.
Now you'll probably see 100+ people trying to sell the coins on ebay for $5+
Rest in Peace

My local 7-eleven is also a community post office - I just called there, and they have abou $600 worth of rolls, and would be glad to sell me a roll or two. I agree with *coin_games - probably a large saving for the mint then sending out 5 to each request. This way also, they get full Canadian exposure, quickly.
