Hey guys, I had 2 Canadian pennies that have a weird silverish colour to them. I don't have any pics as I threw both of them out as I was reading that they might be coated with mercury. One is from 1916 and it looked very shiny and silverish except on the highest spots (on the letters and date) where you could tell that it was bronze underneath as it was red/brown. The other one I had was from 1980 and it had a pale yellow/nickel colour to it but on the highest spots of wear (on the leaves) it looked a bit brown. What do you guys think? I have no clue about the 1916 one but could the 1980 one just have a bit too much tin/zinc coating on it as they typically contain a bit of both? Have I done the right thing by getting rid of them (was worried about it potentially being mercury)?

you are probably going to do more damage (enviromentally) by imporperly disposing of fluourescent light bulbs than tossing out those 2 pennies.
