Hello Friends,
I am planning to purchase an Alexander Tetradrachm , issued during his lifetime , Babylon mint. I found good detailing on the coin both sides. How much do you think it is worth for ?

An Alexander III tetradrachm, lifetime, from Babylon, in that condition... rarely affordable... up to 900-1000$ I'd say

A nice one

I wish I could help you on pricing, but I thought at minimum I could lend my support for purchasing such a beautiful piece of history. It amazes me the detail that has survived for so long.

Welcome and good luck!

If you can get it for less than $600 you got yourself a deal. These lifetime coins are rarely affordable and usually about a Grand! Good luck and nice find!

I found one in about equivalent condition in VCOINS for $700.
My budget would allow for (and I would be happy with), a coin like the example shown, in a grade or a grade and a half lower.

The conditions you described do not generally apply to Ancients. That being said, I would grade the OP coin at VF+

I would agree with Bing-the grading of ancients is rather sketchy but I would agree VF+ for this guy!

At least Good VF imo But that's not as important with ancients as it is with modern coins as Bing said.

For comparison, mine was graded Near EF by Freeman/Sear...

When considering grade and price with ancients you also have to take into account surfaces, metal quality (porosity, roughness etc.). These are not always so easy to judge from images.

@ Dionysos - Yes I do agree the Grading do not apply to ancient coins.
A nice one that you have, good toning. Your's too is the Babylon mint, with nearly as sharp features as the one on the forum . Do you think mine would be graded near EF too by Freeman/Sear ?
It would be a useful information if you could disclose, how much you paid for it ?
Thanks once again ! ...

In terms of wear/details I'd say that both coins are about the same (the one you've showed might be a little better on obverse). Yours is slightly porous overall, mainly in the reverse left field, and mine is scarcer (unrecorded variant). I paid around 900$, and I think I've made a very good deal...
