This why each state should have a grading service in it, and the postal service is going down the toilet anyways. I will not send my coins in to get graded, sorry to hear about your ordeal.

i had some coins stolen, the culprit was caught outside the shop he cashed them in at. after explaining it to the shop they declined letting me buy back the coins at face value, some months later the second in charge was introduced to me as a coin collector, now I know why they refused.
you mentioned in the post office you where sending coins for grading,
"ooh said the clerk must be worth a lot, he thought"
i hope this isn't the case and they do turn up.

I don't think I will ever send coins through mail again. Now I have a free submission coupon for five coins to NGC and I'm too afraid to use it.

Erkle, it was the clerk at the post office?

I don't understand how these people can weight the consequences and still go through with stealing it. Isn't stealing mail not only larceny but a federal offense punishable with some serious prison time?

Update: My appeal was approved and I received the check today....for $20.15. I called and they said that they do not insure coins. I quoted page 8 of their publication that states they do and they said to file another appeal!? I HATE THE USPS.

Hi, I buy lots of coins from the states, I've received close to 275 separate packages since last July . I have not had one go missing! Is it correct to assume since I live in Canada, it's pointless to pay for insurance? I have bought a total of 575 coins from ebay since last July and have only had 3 problems. They all were coins sent from ont. I received the envelopes with holes in bottom corner, and coin removed. Technically the letters arrived just no coins. One even had all original packing material still taped to the inside. I just need to know whether it's a waste of money to pay for insurance? Rox

It depends on how much the coins are worth. I have never had a package go missing and I have been buying online since I started collecting. If sending to a TPG, I suggest always getting insurance. When a TPG address label is on a package it screams "STEAL ME".

UPDATE:

Second appeal says it is approved. It only took them a few days to come to a decision. I will let you know if they reimburse me in full this time. I have been fighting this battle for almost three months now I just want to be done with it.

UPDATE:

Well I won my second appeal and was reimbursed for the FULL insured amount. HUUUGE thanks to JokingJoker for letting me know about the publication. That publication was the only reason why I won my case. It took 71 days and two appeals but I finally won!! Thank you all for your help and I hope this thread will both warn and help anyone else that goes through this nightmare down the line. Now...I'm off to buy my new 89-CC WOOT WOOT!
