 They're 100% legal tender (fact)

What I like about this series:
-Silver content is appropriately measured to allow series to continue without any modifications for a few years, even if silver goes up a little bit. -The price is perfect for everyone. -The mintage is high enough to prevent any of the original coins to skyrocket in price. I think the high prices prevent new collectors from joining series a midway, and new collectors are the fuel to keeping a series alive.
I am hopeful that the Mint can keep this thing going even when they have to change it to $50 for $50 to combat silver prices. It would be cool to see the face value go up every so many years as silver rises, then you can look back at your coin collection and see the history of silver inflation.

Bottom line, the mint is in business for profit. As long as silver stays at a price where the silver value of the 'giftware' is below 50% of the selling price, I believe the mint will continue with this series. Most of the PM mint product I see has a bullion value range of 25% to 50% of its list price. With fewer items at the 50% end it appears 100% markup is the cutoff point. Since this series sells out, the mint will do whatever it can to continue it as long as it can keep its profit margin. The 'legal tender' claim is sort of a hazy claim, not redeemable at businesses or financial institutions, coin shops may but are not required to accept them, RCM kiosks or the mint will redeem them. How many remember the mess with the olympic $5 and $10 silver commemoratives that were supposed to be legal tender but refused by banks and the gov't did some backtracking and said 'not legal tender'.

Quote: The argument that these are better than a $20 bill is invalid, as a $20 bill is legal currency, the $20 silver coins are not. This subject has been discussed at length here https://goccf.com/t/79692

The mint has a special process for any to bank to accept them.

On the point about the Olympic coins, I was told that they could always be used to pay taxes. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In the end, coin collecting is a passion that is kept alive in many ways and as we've seen on this forum, $20 for $20 is certainly part of that. We can disagree on many things when it comes to the RCM production and methods. And I'll be the first to strongly defend or oppose their doing. That's because I still live the passion of collecting.

@Dcadon: The question would be how much of the historical gold/silver ratio was due to gold prices being held down by the gold standard?
The ratio hit 100:1 about a decade ago. In the bear market. So I see nothing to indicate it will return to the gold standard ratio.

Quite surprised to see these hockey coins still kicking around. Thought they'd sell out already! No one buying these coins, maybe?

20 4 20 became less popular since RCM stops free shipping, plus hockey is not widely practiced internationally

I just saw a full page ad taken out by the mint in the latest CAA magazine. It's on the first page. "The Royal Canadian Mint pays tribute to Hockey, Canada's national pastime, with its latest coin. This best selling series sells out rapidly! Orders limited to three per household while supplies last." "Order now, it's fast and easy" I suppose RCM is appealing to a particular demographic with this. Even my dad who isn't into coins asked me whether I was getting this one since he thought the $20 for $20 seemed like a good deal.

Hey cookiecutter, the last time there was a full page ad in the CAA magazine for the 20 for 20 there was a free shipping code in the ad - was there any free shipping code on that ad?
