The coin with the highest grade I've ever purchased from J&M was a MS 63. It came out of the back unprotected with dozens of bag marks (the coins probably only merit MS 60).
I am thinking about the 1991 quarter at the grade of MS 65. This feels a bit risky.
Has anyone purchased a MS 65 coin from J&M before? Were the coins purchased unprotected when they came out of their warehouse?

I've purchased many coins from J&M but only if 3rd party graded.
Are you asking about raw coins J&M is assigning a grade to?

If you can't grade the coin in hand yourself,don't do it. Buy an ICCS coin. Two have recently sold on ebay for under $50. "Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Sorry for not reaching my point.
This is my question: is it actually okay to hold a MS 65 coin with bare hands, holding the rim? That's what they did with the MS 63s.

It's OK but not recommended,too easy to drop,they should be in a 2x2 or flip.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

better not -- your finger may leave sweat on the coin which can turn into permanent marks, for copper coins. I saw many circulated loonies has fingerprint on it.

TPGs hold coins by the rim with bare hands when grading.Wash your hands,only touch the rim.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Great info, now I know what those funny thread like marks on coins are! It's true, I see it mostly on pennies. Are the fingerprints permanent or can they be safely removed and how to do it? I have 4 coins with finger prints, they are silver and copper. Thank, rox
