If only I had more time to get to the emails and get some photos taken. (I may have to stop cataloging my collection and add some new discoveries)
2013 10 cent coins are out in rolls from the mint and have die Faults on them not photographed yet

Quote: 1985 50 cent. Canadian mule. (New Zealand 1985 50c obverse with a Canadian $1 reverse) Sigh.... that mule is my numismatic White Whale... I do have several Canadian coins struck on New Zealand planchets...

News of a 'new' NZ Mule has recently been made known. It's a 2004 10c where the Obv was minted using the Obv for $1. If you can get your hands on the latest Royal Numismatic Society Journal, you should be able to find the details. It gets a mention on this site: http://www.coinerrors.co.nz/wordpre...mal/10-cent/Scroll down to 2004 section.

I was sorting through all my NZ 50c coins and while checking them, I discovered that I have 7 years with the so called 'missing rope' and I even have multiples of some of the years. As far as I am aware, they have only been recognized for 1986 & 1988. I have the following 'missing rope' coins: 1986x2, 87x3, 88x1, 2001x2, 02x3, 03x2, & 04. Just the fact that I have 3 each for 1987 and 2002 makes me wonder if this 'missing rope' has been a 'furphy' all along. The thing is, apart from 1 other 'normal' 1988 with rope, I have no others of any of these years to enable me to make a comparison. For all I know, the entire mintage of the above coins may have the rope missing. If anyone has some 1986-88 and 2001-04 coins they could check and let me know the status of the 'rope' on them, I would appreciate it as if they are all missing the rope, then they were probably designed that way. There is also another difference on the 1988 coins with the Initials JB @ about 3k on the reverse. My two coins appear to have different initials, but the With rope one is a bit bashed up in that exact spot, so makes the difference harder to spot. NZ 50c 1988 JB Comparison No Rope v With Rope

Nice spotting Nancy
A couple of us have been working on this for a little while now trying to get to the bottom of what has happened with this no rope issue. Paul a member of the RNSNZ has been trying to get an answer from the mints regarding this and to see if they used the correct die as the no rope looks to be James Berry's prototype design that he redid before decimal change over to include the ropes so it was a more historically accurate picture of the Endeavor.
I found hmm 2 years ago I think it is now that it started in 1984 in UNC sets. With both rope and missing ropes found in unc sets in 1984 this is now mentioned in the errors section of the NZ Coin and Banknote catalogue.
It gets more interesting with what we are still looking at and I have a list on my wall to remind me but while the 2002 on wards circulating coins have no rope the sets for the same years do have the ropes. Even the new smaller circulation coins have no rope but the Proof sets do have a rope. Sets and circulating coins are made at different mints so have been provided different dies for some reason
I had a page on my site with more of this information listed but after upgrading servers they stuffed the database in the transfer so the site is currently not working. They were supposed to get a copy from a backup and have it working before easter but I have been away and it does not appear they have done anything at all so I may have to start loading it from scratch again :-(

Thank for the info. I can't find anything about errors in my 2011 NZ Coin and Banknote catalogue (by Anthony W Grant), but maybe it's too old.
Please let us know if you get any more info.

Its a 4 page section with photos to help explain a few of the varieties and to help reduce confusion. I think the section was added in 2013 or 2014 but the 2016 version has just been released. forum member translateltd put that section together so he could tell you more. He also has easy payment options available for Australians if you wanted the new catalogue. I just picked up the one he sent me from my post box today.

I asked the coin 'What's the matter? Are you alright ?' and got no reply. But seriously, yes it is rotated , well done Mr T. Two errors on the one coin. 11 o'clock roughly.

Haha - I think a lot of the 1999 5c pieces are upset. I've got two and thought I'd got exceptionally lucky.
