I recently acquired this really interesting 1878-P Type 1 and haven't had any luck with attributing it to its proper VAM. There is a lot going on with the coin. On the obverse a circular die crack/s at the margin completely encircles the coin. On the reverse there are also die crack around the motto, a doubling of the upper right wreath leaves (eagle's perspective) and strong doubling of "UNITED". Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's in a NGC MS63 slab (at the moment)...

Check it against the VAM 12 attributes. That is what it looks like to me. nlp

Looks like you nailed it NLP! Mine must be a very LDS because there are several additional die cracks on the reverse that don't show in the VAMWORLD examples. Muchas gracias!! PG

For the record, when attributing 8TF VAMs, the most important detail images are the bottommost wing feathers on each side of the legs (you have one side, but not the other) and the eye (shown). There are others, but these three and good full-face images will address the majority of them without further ado.

I agree with V12 on this one. The die crack to the 1, and the visible bottom wing feathers, are pretty definitive.
