They assured me that this seller will be dealt with and is on their watch list, we'll see what happens.

Nothing is going to happen, all ebay cares about is their own profit.
This seller will be on next week selling another false coin.

Anybody stupid enough to buy this coin deserves to be stuck with it.

That said, the bidding itself is really suspicious - a first-time buyer vs. someone with almost 2000 buys. You sometimes have to wonder if ebay itself creates these sort of auctions just to see if anybody is paying attention.

E bay just sent me a survey to fill out about my experience with E bays customer support about this seller.
They are not going to like my answers the first question was how satisfied were you with the help provided.
I told them no help was provided at all the seller is still ripping people off and on your auction house and it makes it look like E bay supports this type of business (the seller ripping people off). I don't feel that this is a very good business practice on E bay's part. I told them that customer support are very polite and listen very well but did nothing about the problem but assure me that it would be dealt with, I also told them that they are helping this thief as the common coin worth 1 cent is now up to $94.00+ now that is stealing by both of you.
So we will see what happens now I will likely get booted off E bay for speaking the truth but I don't really care I'm getting sick of E bay and there rules.

I don't get why a bidder with almost 2000 feedbacks, whose 30 day history shows 30 items bid on, almost all of them small cents, would be driving the price up against a first-time bidder (shill?). Aren't they risking their account? Do they intend to win and then return the item, thus protecting others and maybe exposing a shill account? Somebody who knows someone who might have done something similar (wink) please explain the possible strategy here.

It's up to $109.17. I've reported to ebay FWIW.

Edit: papeldog, how did you email ebay? I can't find any way to directly contact them other than generic dropdowns under "report item".

Kbbpll,
I went through Customer Support I wrote my question to them and I think it went on a forum of some type because they got back to me within an 1/2 HR and told me they deleted it from where ever it went and that I couldn't do that and to read my E bay agreement that I agreed to when joining E bay.
When they got back to me they supplied an email address, a telephone number to call them or get them to call me so I went with the later I got them to call me about my questions and they did call me back pretty much right away.

Sold! $109.17. I assume that h***j and/or e***o were just messing with the seller. Good for you, whoever you are. I sent seller a stern "question" and I got "ty" in reply.

I've found the most effective way to report an item is through the " ebay Auction Violation Reporting" feature of this forum. Click on "All Forums" scroll down 'til you find " ebay Auction Violation Reporting", click there and send your report.

Latest feedback for this seller (for the auction in question): "This is not POINTED 5- clearly a blunt 5. Seller is a cheat! Should be banned!"
Good job!

Clearly someone opened an account to bid on this coin with the intent of leaving negative feedback. As much as I dislike anyone misrepresenting any product on ebay, using this sort of tactic doesn't help the integrity of the online market place. As to why anyone would bid over 100$ for a 1985 P5 penny (I'm referring to a the buyer that didn't win) is also suspect so I'm guessing that those bids were also illegitimate.

It doesn't seem like ebay cares about the integrity of the online marketplace, so what's the better solution TCH? Just let the buyers learn their lesson (or not)? BTW, I did not find any accurate "complaint" in their "report item" choices. "Fraudulent" apparently means someone else is posting under their account. At least that's the way I read the options.

I agree, ebay doesn't do enough and I sometimes wonder if anyone ever looks at the complaint reports, and even if they did, often they wouldn't know what to look for. Also, ebay has become a bit of a "vault" from a corporate standpoint with no real way for customers to contact or interact with the company to put forth ideas, suggestions and/or complaints outside of the "cookie cutter" issues. Indeed that is a problem but I think ebay needs to be continuously pushed to improve the trade environment (both for buyers and sellers alike). I once suggested "field experts", members of the ebay community that are active through either buying or selling to be the ones to deal with or at least have some involvement with complains associated with their field of knowledge. If you take an example of a fake coin listing that may be obvious to the coin community, that listing may not be so obvious to an ebay support individual sitting in California with no coin knowledge. So what does he do now? Take the complaintant's word for it? What if the complaint is unfounded? Allowing the "wild west" to flourish also opens the door to fraud on the buyer's end. Not sure what the answer is but I'd like to see ebay more proactive in that aspect.
