I am having a difficult time locating a 1997 W nickel. Coinsandcanda says it exists, but ebay hasn't had any as far as I can tell, and I haven't been able to find in one in any other online stores either. Does anyone have any info on where I can.

It exists only in the Winnipeg produced sets. It has no mint mark nor anything else to distinguish it from the Ottawa produced NBU coins.
If you must have one, buy a 1997 Winnipeg BU set. It's the one with the loonie to the left of the toonie when looking at the reverse.
Here's one on ebay

Thank you very much for the info, this was driving me crazy, I am now unsure if I want to include this in my collection as there is no visual distinction between the 1997 and 1997 w. I will have to think on it. My original goal is to have one of each nickel from the coins and canada list.

I was updating my collections too (from the last ten years or so). I have been buying all the "W"s too but I decided to pass on a coin with no visual distinction.
