If it was a 5, I think it would be more full width. EDIT - Also, the bottom loop of the 5 that year was less curved Report this Post to the Staff

The upper and lower loops of the 8 are the same size in 1948, 1958, 1968, etc. By the way I collect all 1938s because of this unique characteristics. Yours is 1938d.
