Hey unruhjonny,
There is a doubling of the H, the antlers, and date of the
reverse side of the coin. You can see a doubled line on
the side of the caribou by the H, on the bottom of the H,
on the top and side of the antlers and the top of the
date digits. It is a know variety. An error occurred
during minting that made the features on the reverse
doubled. Also grease got on the die that caused fading
near AN in CANADA.

Found one in change from Casino in Dec - looks like a decent MS 62/63 to my eyes. Now have a total of 4 I think.

interesting - thanks for the explination Don!

Respectfully, can I ask one question(?);
If you need to look that close, is it really an error?

I ask because I am seeing alot of people these days showing magnifications of this sort of "error" - but without the magnification, it just doesn't appear to be there...
Now, maybe you can see it in person without magnification, and if that's a fact, then I give you more credit for finding an error...

Is it possible that the die was re-engraved, and it wasn't done perfectly?

It just seems like most people these days are looking for errors, and finding every coin seems to have some sort of an "error"...
(but truthfully, my pet peeve is people who insist that post minting damage is a minting error.)

end rant :)

Thanks Unruhjonny,
I like errors on dollars more because the coins are bigger.
I use a loupe all the time when looking at coins. I have
a macro lens for the phone and it is easy to scan a coin for
a certain variety or error. The naked eye thing works for
eye appeal, but for certain things you need magnification.

I buy a many coins raw and find errors. It is fun to find out
how they occurred. Many experts around the forum to help.

Here is the CoinsandCanada link to the error.

Was at my LCS the other day and he has one for $20, I've had a couple chances to buy one over the years but have never gone for it. I know I've seen them in the wild a few times, just can't remember when.

I just found a second one last week while roll hunting, I had to look at it 3 times before I actually believed what I was seeing.

Finally got around to upload the 1991 quarter.
Also inside the same roll is the arguably rarer coin to find in circulation than the 1991-the 1867-1992 caribou quarter.
