Hi

I did not reply for a while on this post
but was told that the two quarter reverses
shown below are identical. I need some other eyes
to help me out. mine is the 79-P (first pic.)
the other pic. is a 79-D
they do not look identical to me.
Lower Rev. Pic. of 79P added.

The type B were on re-used proof dies that made business strike quarters from 1956-64 Philly quarters. You can check other quarters from that year to see if they are like that way. But the proof reverse would be the best way to see what a type B looks like.

bonham ,

I am not sure if this will help or not...I am not familiar with the post 64 reverse types (yet). I have a pic of a 79-D reverse that seems to show that your reverse does have more space between the E and S in states than this particular coin. I am not sure if there are any other pick up points, maybe the leaf tip and arrow tip configuration and strike/detail quality. I would look at some others and compare, I can't find a 79-P at this moment.

arrows and leaf height as my 64-P type B.

Despite not wanting to start this thread...I am curious now Mr. Bonham. I am familiar with they type A,B,C reverses from 1956-1964, is this the same type B reverse from those years ? Or is this a post 64 type B reverse (is there such an animal ? ) I have several of all dates of the pre-64 type B's and that 1979 coin does not look the same to me.

This is your picture of the 79

Here is my 64 type B

Sorry to drag this out ! If this is yet another type of post 64 reverse, can I get a short explanation ?

You can call me Ron by the way. Were all friendly around here :)
I only know of the 64/64D and back, type B and C rev's. I collect them both.
The letters do look diff. E S, but the space is about equal.
I never saw this on a post 64 quarter before so that is why
i wrote. there was an earlier post that went long and wild
so I think everyone got tired of the type ABC quarter reverses.
it is pretty clear on the differences now, but I just wondered
about why this coin had the B rev. while all the ones around that year did not. I was going to edit my post subject line, but was afraid to put in the words TYPE B :)
might of started a riot.

Hey Ron,

Nice to meet You, You can call me Steve, and I have been part of some of those threads :)...Guess I didn't see any complaints ! There was some mention in one of those B threads about some different reverses on post 64 quarters, so I thought maybe you had a handle on it. One reason for my interest in the B and C types is I can get them at melt readily - just have to search them. Just trying to cram some more coin info into my already overwhelmed brain ! Thanks for your time

The coin at the top of the thread is not a type B reverse. It is a normal reverse for that year.

O.K. thanks again.
for future reference then:
the 1979-P wash. quarter has a different reverse
than the 1979-D wash. quarter.
79-D = type A rev. (normal)
79-P = type B rev. (normal)
glad that is cleared up. I can quit looking
for B's on later quarters.
p.s. maybe I made a mistake on the 79-D being type A (normally)
i better double ck. might be type C.

Why don't you post the rest of the obverse. I find the arrows and the leaves much more of an indicator than the spacing.

The biggest difference I noticed was the "S" in both States and Pluribus.
