A poster on the Rflgs form posted about the firefly coin referencing the awesome short lived TV series "Fire Fly". Awesome idea and the pictures he/she posted reminded me of just how great a show that was. Hey, if we can have a coin with a cartoon rabbit on it why not a coin with a cool space craft. Thank you to the redflags poster for making me smile.

@CC_Ottawa:
I agree with you, but didn't compare this coin to 14kt gold one with cartoon theme.
I just said that $500 is big money for me to spend now on one coin.

Just got my Catalog for May... the 5oz is nice... I am very tempted by it. Might trade in some of my $100 for $100 for it

Just have seen some pictures from the may release:
caught attention the Fractional set - Eagle, while the external package has same design as 4-coin series, there is no "Chicken head" as 1oz coin, but the Bald Eagle depicted much more better. Very big disadvantage - the Fractional "Animal" set had different designs, in this case all the coins have same design. The item is good, but imo, do not think, it worth the money.
Buffalo / Panda coin - definitively nice one for the Panda collectors. This animal appears in the design that similar to the Panda on the Chinese bullion coin.

The eagles look nice and the design by Derek Wicks is very good. With a mintage of 7500 and a nice wooden box, they are tempting.
The Unesco coin with the buffalo and panda is hideous. Most 8 year olds could draw a better looking panda.
The jade 1oz polar bear look extremely odd. The green just doesn't work IMO.
However, the maple of prosperity is well done. I'm not sure why that series is not extremely popular. The coins are generally well balanced and have incorporate similar design elements yet it seems none has really caught fire.

Quote: However, the maple of prosperity is well done this is for sure. I very liked the Taurus on the gold. The 3 fishes on the silver are done well, but they doesn't have same bold look like the gold one. Wish I could afford the gold Taurus as same as my Zodiac sign.

One word: Price Not a lot of people can afford to drop $1000 on a coin no matter how nice it is. And if you want every coin in the series, that will cost you $5000, considering this is the fifth coin in the series.

The "In Flanders Fields" commemorative coins have been added to the RCM web site - a one-ounce $20 silver coin (plain) and a five-ounce $50 with added colour. I'm partial to the $20 coin. It has a nice clean design that captures the historical significance of the poem well. Looks like I'll be making my first RCM purchase since January's commemorative silver dollars.
