If I did not do variety plus on the one coin, would be $36.20 per coin

I thought they were "free" grades?

My dealer charges me $25 flat per....but it can take months.

I know what your saying. At the start of this I thought
"nice" I can send in any five coins .. on the five free
submissions.

Not exactly the case.

There are services that cost extra. Some examples.
- Adding a variety to the label
- Special labels "First strikes or Anniversary"
- Scratch resistant holders

Also special tiers are not available on the five free ones.

And was told I could not mix in gold coins, or maybe no
gold at all on the five free.

If your not doing the five free submissions, there are a couple
tiers that are a little cheaper. I think they are "Modern
and Economy tiers" Those I think are less then $20, something like $17 or $19 per coin, minimum 5 coins.
And they do take longer to make it through their system.

With those, shipping and Ins. should be less too.

---------------------------------------------------

This post is not me promoting everyone to go out and submit
coins to a TPG. Just to let others know of my experience,
so that it might help some .. if they decide to do the same.

On certain coins it is a huge benefit to have them slabbbed,
if your ever planning to sell or to help maintaining a coins
condition.

On the other side of the coin ... I see many coins that
trade for less then the cost of getting them slabbed.

As I have been saying ... coin selection is very important.

Thanks for sharing your experience so far. I own several slabbed coins but I have never submitted any myself basically due to me not fully understanding what I am doing. Your post has helped. I wish I had someone close to me that would submit for $25 per coin. That would be the way to go.

GR58...I'm looking forward to seeing the results!

I have to say I really enjoyed this experience of sending
coins into NGC. I would like to try ANACS next.

Where I am still undecided about how I feel about the
1788 Vermont, I am so happy with the results on how the
other four turned out, I can worry about that later.

And to be real, the coin is what it is.

As I said before, to me coin selection very important for
TPG submission. And I got lucky ... it could have been worse.

Now I have some coins that, if I decide to sell, will sell
better because of being in a NGC slab.

Here is the break down
1788 Vermont copper
It is hard to put a value on this coin, because "Plated"
A 1788 Vermont copper RR29 G6 with no problem $1500 range.

NGC's price guide

1875 Indian cent AU58 $220
http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/i...=2660288-002

1914 D Indian head nickel AU53 $390
http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/i...=2660288-003

1894 S Morgan dollar AU58 $640
http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/i...=2660288-005

1896 O Morgan dollar MS62 $3300
http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/i...=2660288-004
I thought getting a MS60 grade for this coin would have
been great, so you can see I am very happy with this.

Of course these are not real world prices. Depending on
how a person was selling these coins, 50 to 75 percent
of those prices would be closer to what is possible.

For me, I have had most of these coins for years, and I am
sure I have less than $300 in all of them.

Just saying that to stress, to learn as much as you can
about the coins you are buying. Always try to find the best
price. And hold on to them for a long time ....
