Anyone want to do the math here on how many there are. Weight with the tin is 50.8 lbs so let's drop the .8 for the tin and say it's 50 pounds even net weight for the calculation

Depends on what years they are, different eras different weights. I have a five gallon bucket of 59-82 coppers but I bet John has way more lol.

Hard to tell exactly without knowing exactly what years are in there... since the pre-1982 cents weigh about 3.11 grams and post-1982 weigh 2.5 grams (and also taking into account any wear at all). But just based on those numbers and if they were all pre-1982 there would be about 7292 cents. Post-1982 there would be about 9071. With wear I would say anywhere in between 7300-9100 for my guess. That is a lot of pennies!

The main problem is that the weight difference between the zinc and bronze/brass (95% copper) cents is significant. Fifty pounds of Zincolns would outnumber fifty pounds of bronze cents by a significant amount. A lesser problem is the Weight Tolerance of the planchets and the weight lost from circulation.

My guess is based off of the following assumptions: A 25/75% split between copper / Zinc.
$86.27 or 8,627! That is a lot of cents!

Looks like that one is a mix of pre and post 82 LMC's... But 9f you guys thought that was a lot of em check this out... I think my only option is going to be coinstar unless others can suggest other routs?... by the way I THINK it's all lincolns in the keg (up to just below the bunghole) but not sure yet as dumping everything out through the bung is going to be quite the task!... ps, i.grew up in the 90s so even when used properly the word "bunghole" still cracks me up

Well that is much more than 9100 cents right there... Coinstar (or a free dump at multiple bank branches would be my first suggestion) would probably be a good idea for that many... but not going to lie I couldn't help myself I would have to look through them all! :P

I used to work in a beer distro warehouse - those old style kegs can get nasty if they weren't cleaned out properly. You may want to wear some gloves when dealing with those cents in the old keg unless you are certain that it was well cleaned prior to putting the coins in the keg.

Thanks for the info Jake. Do those old kegs themselves have any value? I'm debating taking an angle grinder to it

Good story ray but I must say how technically worthless his ambition of a retirement plan was. $13,000 goes very quickly and isn't really enough to reinvest for short period gains. I bet he wishes he collected quarters, or better yet SBA's

My guess would be somewhere between 10 Cents and one hundred thousand, plus or minus a few million.
