And..... Me Co.........
I appreciate the "constructive criticizm" actually. And you're partially right in looking at it the way you did. But, I never intended to go back originally......I just got hooked. And other "silver hunters" ARE hitting banks in town. They're hitting my personal bank branch AND the main branch, so logically I assume each time I just had to purchase all I could......and no matter how many there were......$300.00 is all I could muster. AND I shopped the SAME $300.00 each time to produce what I did. Now that bank has none left, and I can pay some bills over the next couple of weeks and try again later somewhere else....... I'd LOVE to buy all they had........just don't have the money, nor can I wait till I do, because of all the "other" silver hunters out there in my town.

mikie: Just ask tellers at the bank for halves. If they have them, they'll give them to you. Go to a few branches. If none have any, ask them to order them for you. If they ask what for, I do not tell them I am silver hunting- I tell them I'm trying to build a set or I'm analyzing coins from circulation for a project (both of which are true for me, in addition to silver hunting). To order them, you will need $500 minimum and some branches have $1000 order minimum.

I have been searching halves for about two months. Some boxes are good 5-10 40%'s and 1 or 2 90%'s. the last 2 boxes I got had 2 40%'s. I was encouraged by you guys to keep going. I got $1000 worth last night and as soon as I opened the box I saw a liberty bell. So- 2 500$ boxes searched last night 2 franklin's 1 walker 3 1964's and 30 40%'s not bad. I cant wait to get the next boxes.

I think I would faint and collapse If I were to find a Franklin or Walker ! I can't quite part with $500.oo yet........but I might have to see what $400.00 could get me.
In about two weeks, I'll probably see about ordering a box. I can't do two. So, I'll see what my banks "minimum" is for ordering those. The excitement is just too much for me.......I miss it ! And it 'IS' like crack ! LoL Ha Ha

UDATE ON $250.00
Yesterday I took $250.00 hunting silver........... One bank had about $80.00 worth so I got those. Another bank had $170.00 so I got those. Last night I looked through the $170.00 batch and only found one 40% !
The second batch I looked through HAD 24 SILVER PIECES IN IT !!
So...... my total is 44 pieces of silver in less than two weeks work !!
Now, still having the bug, today I went to several more banks checking to see if they had any......not finding any, I went to the biggest one in town. They had a box of $500.00 (which I assumed was the Fed. Res. box) So, I have these right here beside me at the office. I'm going to look through them and hurry the cash back to "my" bank, because I can't afford to do this !!
But, so 44 pieces of Silver in less than two weeks work ! AND I have a $500.00 box to look through yet ! Hooouuuuuwwwweeee !

Okay.......gettin' worried here. I haven't found anything yet ! The wrappers of the entire box are all "yellow & white". Is this the Federal Reserve wrapper color ? Does anyone know ? They're professionally rolled (or machine rolled) and the wrapper says Harrisburg, Pa on all of them too...... any thoughts here ?

Now half way through the $500.00 and only ONE 40% silver ! CRAP !
However I did find a 2002 P in really good shape and a 2005 P in good shape.
And I decided to keep those that are "glowing" with good condition to save for maybe a future book....don't know.

From what folks have said in the other thread (roll hunting), the bank-wrapped can be feast or famine. Most people are saying they average 5-7 keepers out of a box of $500 from the FED.

I still am waiting for my $1000 in bank-wrapped- now won't be here until Wed. I am so eager to get these! My bank did, however, get in $240 in havles from a customer yesterday plus $20 in IKES. I snatched them all up and will be looking through them this weekend.

I am betting that based on what everyone is saying in this and the other roll hunting thread that customer wrapped are the way to go. They could be feast or famine, too, but from all the customer-wrapped I've gone through, there are much more feasts than famine, and the feasts, like what you've seen Eaglefoot, can be enormous. These customer-wrapped can be very hard to find and you are competing with other coin collectors in your city who might be doing the same. I recommend leaving your name and a contact person at several branches near where you work and hope they would call you when they get in more than $100 in halves.

eaglefoot - don't be discouraged. I searched a total of $2,000 of halves ordered from the FED over the past two days and found ZERO. I waited over a week for those four boxes and was extremely disappointed when I opened the first box and saw that the entire box was all 1995's. The other 3 boxes had no silver whatsoever. I'm discouraged but plan to drive to some surrounding towns on my day off next week looking for hand rolled halves/

Yeah....... I would start CRYING if I opened a box and it was all 1995's ! OH MAN ! LOL>>
I can see the feast of famine from Fed Res. boxes now ......first hand. So I'm gonna cash this in and go hit some nearby towns and see what that produces. I'll tell my girlfriend we're going for a "drive" and see what I can find doing that. I won't give up on the Fed boxes......but I have A LOT of places to get hand rolls and "loose" ones from .........

I've been searching halfs for the past couple of weeks, and I'm not to the point at the moment that I can afford to "buy" a $500 box, so I have been hitting customer wrapped rolls. I've had very little luck, except this past Monday at a large downtown bank that had $260 worth. I found 36 40% and 3 90% in those rolls. Oh, lest I forget, another downtown bank sold me 8 rolls that were Fed or Brinks wrapped, and got one 90% and five 40% in those rolls. I was going to really go out of my way to put aside the $$$ for the bank box, but based on what I am reading here, maybe customer rolls are the way to go. Today I checked $120 worth; zilch. I'll check more tomorrow! Good luck to everybody; keep posting your finds so folks going through a dry spell won't get discouraged!

Kk....... I found one of the few remaining banks with halves in my town on Saturday. They are Fed Res. wrapped rolls though. I found 4 40% and 1 90% in $250.00 worth. They told me they had another $1,000.00 or so of these Fed rolls and that was it. So, I guess I'll clean them out this week and topple this bank of their silver.
But, I'm still excited by the prospect of customer wrapped rolls ! If I look hard, I might find several more banks to check, but then it's off to the nearby towns (grew up there, so I know em') It's NOT becoming an "obsession", it's becoming an "odyessy" ! Ha Ha LoL
Oops though !! I can't overlook the fact that I DO HAVE TO PAY SOME BILLS THOUGH ! Ha Ha I can't keep shopping this money around forever !
