Hi, so I was watching the HSN coin show last night (for the first time). The guy said something really interesting. He said the 2015 high relief gold liberty coins could be a precursor for a brand new gold american eagle coin next year. So I did some research and found out that next year is the 30th anniversary for the american eagle coins. Both the silver and the gold eagles. Some coin websites have said that people making decisions wanted to change the reverse of both the gold and silver eagles for years. So could next year see brand new reverse designs for the Eagle coins?

Does anyone have any info on this? If true I'll definitely save up from now on and see what's new next year :D

Hmmm, good question / observation. I'm already in on buying the 1916 remakes but I didn't even think about a 30th anniversary set or if they were thinking of revising the ASE & age designs.

You know, I rather think the Mint and collectors are burnt out of the Special ASE sets. Left a bad taste in a lot of collectors mouths with the fiasco of the 2011 sets, then the special RP coin in the 2012 set which then showed up in another set later. Finally they just made too many of the 2013 set, which by then the well had pretty much run dry. If they do anything special with the 30th anniversary, it would most likely involve a specially run coin with a design change, but I wouldn't hold my breath at this time, as there are already some special anniversary coins in the works as alluded to by Cascade.

For the first time. Right. No need to be shy...

I had a similar thought but it HAS been a while since the last set... so Id be surprised if there is not a 30th anniversary set. Personally I think the market can bear it.

... you caught me

Also aren't you guys excited about the possible new gold american eagle? I don't think there's ever been a limited gold american eagle. According to a coin website they might update the reverse of the gold eagle to the Eagle reverse found on the 225th Anniversary marshals Service gold coin. That would be a beautiful coin :D

I would love to see the reverse become the new AE reverse, but I do agree the obverse should have a few modifications (even though it looks much better on the coin than the digital rendering on the website makes it out to be).

Agree with what you guys said. I the reverse is what will be changed. The reverse of the 225th Anniversary marshals coin looks so good. Really hope that design will be on the gold eagles.

That is something that would be generating huge press since the 2016 ASEs will be out in 3 months, so if we haven't heard anything official by now....

I think if the Mint to do anything special, they will create a "special set" that may be similar to the 1995 set.....

Talking about draining the wallet: All the 1916 commem gold coins, the ATB, and now possible American Eagle special set.....

Me too. Any gold purchases for me (with very few exceptions) will be from an investment perspective and not made at the U.S. Mint.

Until I hit the PowerBall, that is.
