Went through a new 1 cent roll of 1979 and I have 2 different coins here. Coin #1 I found only 1 with a real nice Obverse Die Shift. Coin #2 is a hanging doubled 979 and just wondering how common is coin #2? Not much into varieties!
The doubling is fairly common on 1979 pennies. Anywhere from 1 to 3 digits of "979" may be doubled. If you check through a bunch of 1979 rolls you are likely to find a few examples.
"Discovery follows discovery, each both raising and answering questions, each ending a long search, and each providing the new instruments for a new search." -- J. Robert Oppenheimer
There are a huge number of these. 25 years ago you could find lists of varieties of 1979 cents in Canadian Coin News ads from major dealers. Double date and lettering, ridges at the nose, throat, neck, nape, die clash ridges under the leaves, dots around the date, even something referred to as Spock Ears.
