Just back from the bank. So, sitting here with my box of 50 rolls of just released 2017-P cents. What to do, what to do, what to do.

And get used to that P after the date, as they snuck in a P mint mark for 2017 only. Freaked me out a bit when I first saw it, and read that it was on purpose that they did not, in fact, tell anyone they were going to do that.

What to do? Post some pics, and see if there are any greasers. I'd like to see a 2017 no P cent.
Rest in Peace

Well, easy enough to post a picture. But I'm guessing this isn't what you mean I'll post some coin shots after I have a chance to look through some of them and see what's what.

If I was able to get my hands on a box or two of 2017 P, my plan was to open and search some myself, and be the first person to list them on ebay. (None available as of a week ago when I last looked.) You play up the P on it, and you should be able to get five bucks a roll. There were "pre-orders" for a 2017 P and 2017 D for just under two bucks a "set."

First off, I can now say unconditionally that I am blind. I don't know how you folks that look at a lot of B/U coins can do it. But I just finished giving a good look to 50 2017-P Lincolns and here are my thoughts.

The coins seem to be rather well-struck and not as soft as a lot of the modern cents I've looked at. Not sure if this is just an early die stage or more crisp design. I fudged the color on the first couple of pics to better show the details (right down to my fingerprints!)

And the eye just plain looks odd to me, but seems to be how they designed it.

Couple of spots with minor glitches, but nothing major. Didn't see any die chips or die cracks anywhere, but these things stood out:

The D in VDB was wiped mostly out on at least one coin:

Several had these marking on the upper right of the shield:

And given the size of the MD on the JFM I suspect there might be a number of "Is this a DDR" questions about such:

Anyway, that's what I'm seeing on the new year coins so far. If I get my eyesight back I will poke around some more of them at some point.

That new P mintmark is going to take a bit getting used to. Those marks right above the shield are Feeder Finger Damage.
Rest in Peace

Yeah - brand new cents are he'll on the eyes. You start seeing things that aren't there.

When searching a lot of the same coins, I try to make it interesting. I sort them according to the die markers. If there is a doubled die, then I just search for that marker. If It is nothing, I remember that marker and look for it on a coin. If it is there, it goes away quick. No need to look at everything else, Find the worthless marker and chuck it. Eventually you will be able to spend a few seconds on a roll. No need to keeping looking when you see the marker. I used to get one roll from each box they have and look at them roll to see of they missed something or not. (Of course I get to keep the varieties) I give them a report on the roll. What is there and what is not worth keeping.

These are going for close to 10 cents in bulk! Can you believe it?

I'll have to wait until later in the year to get mine.

I live in Iowa so getting the P mint marks are almost impossible unless you buy them.

These are being played up and hoarded so much, they will never hold the value they are currently selling for.

The only way they will be worth anything over one cent is it the mint suddenly stopped making them, but that is unlikely to happen.

I can, however, get the D mint cents here pretty abundantly. If someone with Philly cents would like to do a trade, PM me, but as for paying five bucks a roll for Zinc cents, that's a fad that will only lose collectors money over a very short time.

I can't get Lincolns anymore since they took our cent out of circulation. Its very depressing to look at that box and know I won't see any of them.

Totally agree, CWB. Definitely not worth that price, but I felt the first person to post rolls on ebay would be able to ask for and receive that price. When I last checked, someone was selling ten rolls for $75, and the auction 08Blond just linked is at $237 for the box. Would I ever pay anything close to it? Of course not, but if someone is able to get a box at face, and there's the demand for it, why not feed the demand? You're not setting the market price since others have already set it.

Of course I'm not going to be able to do this since I haven't seen a 2017 coin yet.

Well, I'm in Australia & I remember reading about the P MM somewhere in the last couple of weeks.

It was more than likely on this forum.
Found it!

Holy crow on these prices that's nuts for sure. And what's shipping cost about on a 12# box?
