The 1st Edition of the NGC Grading Guide for Modern U.S. Coins, published by Whitman in 2004 describes Type 1 and Type 2 1976S Kennedy half dollar Reverse varieties. The Type 1 is described as wider and squared off letters on the reverse peripheral legend, and the Type 2 is described as displaying the usual thin letters on the peripheral legend. The "Notable Varieties" note also states the variety 2 is found only in the copper-nickel coin.

Question is - has anyone encountered the Type 2 "usual thin letters" bicentennial Kennedy half reverse? I have been looking since reading the description in the NGC Grading Guide book. Maybe I'm just unlucky and not looking hard enough, or maybe I don't know what I'm looking at..... I would enjoy hearing of any one's experience with this variety. Thanks very much.

Umm, I think you're describing the Eisenhower dollar...not the Kennedy half dollar.

I think you'all are right!@.. I was focused on the fact the note is located on the Kennedy page (page 92), and I thought the Eisenhower dollars didn't start until page 93 -- Now I see what you mean. Thanks for the wake up call. What a relief! I am just careless, not hopelessly engaged in an endless and futile search... Thanks again.
