Newbie, look for 1) a steel planchet struck in 1944 (leftover from 43 stock)and 2) a copper cewnt struck in 1943(leftover from 42 stock).
Both are highly counterfeited by plating the coin to change the outside look or by altering digits(1948 to 1943)

Whatever you do Newbie234, don't use the word penny on this site while discussing Lincoln cents.

Except the US Mint that makes them calls them pennies. Get a roll from the mint and Pennies is what you'll see.

I hope those who have a problem saying pennies also extend that rage towards nickels.

Thanks JBuck. I was wondering why people who buy new cents don't call them zinks.

Too bad. It looks like that fake has been in that collection for some time. Anyway -- you have to check these things out because every once in awhile something really good does turn up. The hunt continues......

The U.S. Mint never struck a penny. Just cents. If you go to buy a book to put you cents in, you will not find one for U.S. pennies. Collectors call them cents. People who are not collectors call them pennies. UK struck pennies.
