1957 D Jefferson Nickel - Is It A Proof?

Baastacoin New Member United States 18 Posts	Posted 12/10/2018 1:26 pm I got this nickel from a friend who replayed me in coins. As I looked at this coin I noticed it had a particular luster. So, I wonder if the forum collective could help me. - How does one make a determination as to whether a coin is a proof? - What key factors should be considered? - Can you educate me on proof coins? IndianGoldEagle Bedrock of the Community United States 36906 Posts	Posted 12/10/2018 2:20 pm No, this is a circulation strike nickel from the Denver Mint. Proofs generally have a full mirror finish. There are however "matte proofs" with a dull finish. You might want to get yourself a copy of the Red Book which is loaded with good basic info. Thanks for the recommendation IndianGoldEagle. Now, I would appreciate if the coin graders on this forum would provide an estimate on the grade? Only one poster (keith 12) offered a grade as MS67. I wondered is the coin MS67? I'm also interested in the FS designation. My research online indicates that for a coin to receive an FS designation 5 seperate lines need to be visible. There are sections of the stairs where 5 lines are visible. But for the most part 4 complete lines are visible. So, would this coin qualify as FS? Report this Post to the Staff
