*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Hard to pin down exactly what I'm looking at given the existence of so many Die markers spread out over various dye stages. Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Remember this is the one that catches us thinking it is MD doubling, when it isn't.

According to what I've learned so far, I'd say it's Machine Doubling because devices are reduced in size?

Actually it appears that lower E has a split. What's y'all opinion about it?

The "UNU" does not look quite right. Could you capture the entire EPU as in coops photos?

I have added it this time, but you should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

Also on UNITED, show an image like this to see if the die scratches are below that area:

If your tired, we can continue tomorrow. But note the die scratches on the coin I posted with UNITED. See if the die scratches are a match or not?

Apologies Coop. I don't have the exact angle you're looking for but should be able to get it later tonight or tomorrow. You may be able to tell from what I've posted though.

At first glance it does not appear so. Is this pretty significant scratch that runs from the left side of the monument on your example , over to the left side of the letter u in United. Either the angle that I shot does not show it clearly or at all or it's not there and at least we know it's not that die stage.

Thanks again I'll definitely repost with a clear shot and better angle. Now that I look a little more closely at CPU, I think that any doubling that exist there could possibly be Die Deterioration Doubling. What I don't understand is that the rest of the devices that I'm looking at do not exhibit the same degree of deterioration. I guess it makes sense if deteriorate starts from the middle and works its way out.

That said... the presence of Die Deterioration and or Die Deterioration Doubling does not preclude the possibility of a doubled die right?
