SmackRampage Valued Member United States 76 Posts	Posted 06/21/2021 3:06 pm So this is the first one that I found I noticed the mint mark looked off, looked up the coin and saw that there was a d over d error for this coin... Just starting to notice around the rim to the inside of the coin there's like another rim or a split a crack something that goes most of the way around the coin... So I was curious as to what's going on with that but while looking at all that notice some form of doubling as well... But then when I pulled out a second 1987 d with similar problems on the second one crap that goes around the inside rim... merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 06/21/2021 3:14 pm That's not a doubling error nor a mint mark error, what you have is a split platting issue. See the greyish silver colour by the mint mark and a few of the later letters (first T in STATES)? That's zinc being exposed by the copper platting pulling away. Next stop is zinc rot, so not worthy of saving, and certainly no premium I'm afraid. Spend it while you can! Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/21/2021 6:54 pm There were hand punched that year and up to 1989, and there were RPMs: But on your coin the plating split on that area which was common during the 1980's Zincolns.
